Description: The Guerin namesake has been aligned with pastry arts for almost a century, Dominique Guerin’s grandfather opened his bakery in the suburbs of Paris in 1921. It was here, during WWII, that Gaston Lenôtre began his training, laying the foundation for the culinary revolution the chef would later lead. A few decades later the Lenôtre-Guerin relationship would take another turn, when in the early seventies a young Dominique Guerin would begin his own training with Lenôtre. Guerin’s work with the master brought the young chef to Rio, for the opening of the Rio Palace (now Sofitel) in 1979. Thirty years have passed and in between Guerin worked in some of the finest restaurants around the world before returning to Copacabana – first as the pastry chef for Sofitel, now as the owner/operator of Boulangerie Guerin."Nathan M. “Authentic croissants, delicious tarts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

Tarts, baguettes, authentic croissants. Everything is there! This is a very authentic French bakery in the middle of Copacabana. Although much more expensive than a Brazilian bakery, I felt it was worth going there - it really makes you feel as if you were in Europe, as written by another user. However, be prepared to spend some money - the average price of a tartelette is R$ 9 as of December 2012.

Just like been in Paris. If you love french pastry, Guerin is a must in Rio de Janeiro. It is in the middle of Copacabana.

“Very nice bakery”

Very expensive stuff, but the croissant aux amands is really amazing ... Haven't tried the baguette, but it smelled really good too.

“french taste”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

It is a real French boulangerie or bakery. The pastries are like in France. Croissants, eclairs, tartes, mousses etcc etcc. So if you miss French dessert, that is the place. It is not a tearoom where you go to sit and enjoy but more like a take away. Go, buy, try and enjoy because it is very good.

“We almost felt back in Europe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

Guerin is a typical french bakery settled in the middle of Copacabana.
As a foreigner living in Rio I know how hard, if not impossible, it is to find good bread and pastries. But with Guerin, this has changed! At the diner table, my french friend and I tested and approved the fougasse aux olives and tartes aux fruits rouges. We almost felt back in Europe.
