Owner description: A towering statue of Jesus Christ (Cristo Redentor) perched atop the Corcovado Mountain is accessible by a steep train or winding car ride followed by numerous staircases, but it’s worth the trek to see this 98-foot statue up close and the whole of Rio below.

“Must go, Must go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

I have been there at least 99 times! I always take all my friends and we visit. The view is awesome! Get a picture with thelocal photograph, it´s not expensive and cost around 10 dollars.

“Fantastic when it all works out!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

The statue is beautiful and the views are fabulous. I found this so much better than Sugarloaf, but then the weather and the logistics worked in our favour. We took a standard commuter bus (#583) from the beach front at Leblon at 7.25am on a beautiful clear, sunny day and got to the lower train station on Rua Cosme Velho right on 8.00am when the ticket office opened. Tickets are R$50.00 and the two carriage cog-wheel railway takes about 20 minutes to get to the top. No queues for the tickets at that time of the morning (even though high season) and the departure time of your train is printed on the ticket, so no further queuing for that either. The views on the way up are great (sit on the right side of the train in the backwards facing seats), but they are not a patch on what you see from the statue. This tourist attraction was fun.

“Friendly ride”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Friendly ride up the Corcovado to the 'redemptor' in well maintained, second hand, Swiss cable cars. Some nice views. Little shops at the bottom and on the top. Cafe's with wonderful views over Rio on top. Well organised stations.

“One of top two attractions in Rio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

Rio de Janeiro is sometimes referred to as the cidade maravilhosa, and two landmarks hugely contribute to this designation: Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) and pão de açucar (Sugar Loaf). Both are beautiful in their own right, and each offers fabulous views of of this magnificently beautiful city. If you are time limited, I would recommend doing Sugar Loaf, which can handle a higher volume of people. If time is not an issue, then "the Christ" is a very special trip.
Whenever we have visitors, we take them up Corcovado to visit "the Christ." This involves making a reservation for the cog train and taking a ride through the Tijuca forest up to the site. The train doesn't really hold many people and is a pleasant ride, apart from the samba band, which I find annoying, but which many passengers seem to enjoy. The viewing area at the top of Corcovado is limited and on weekends can be extremely crowded.
Some of our guests feel some religious connection to the statue, others do not. I find it a very cool connection of Brazil with its Catholic roots and like the way the Christ is looking out over the city in a protective sort of way. I am immensely annoyed by the postcards that turn the Christ around so that he is looking into the camera for the classic view of the Christ, Sugar Loaf, and Guanabara bay.

“a must do when in RIO”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

amazing view of Rio from the Corcovado, you don't want to leave without a picture here! Parking is chaotic. If you decide to take the train beware that sometimes people get robbed, so don't go with your better watch, jewelry or passports, just bring in some cash.
