“Budget hotel, OK for short stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Stayed here for two nights 29th / 30th January and found it very basic but given the cost comparison with other hotels in the area satisfied what I was looking for,
I arrived very late (midnight) after long flight on the 29th and first impressions of the surrounding area was a little bit daunting.
Quick check in and taken to the room which I found to be very small and not particularly appealing. (Room 732).
Room was clean and bed comfortable but my biggest complaint was the noise from the street and mini bar / fridge which was mounted on the wall (due to no room to put it elsewhere).
I was kept awake throughout the night due to the traffice from the main road and the contiuous clicking on and off of the fridge.
First morning the shower lacked hot water but was OK the second morning.
Breakfast was minimal but again satisfied what I was after. A couple of cereal selections, fruit, ham, cheese, bread with orange juice and very strong coffee.
Free WiFi was a bonus and staff accomodating with sufficient English spoken at reception.
Its location is a big plus along side the cost.
3 minutes walk to Copacabana which during the day light was not so daunting. Several bars in easy walking distance.

In conclusion, an acceptable, low budget hotel ideally located for a couple of nights stay.

The location is fabulous, close to the beach and public transportation. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are dated but clean. Traffic noise is a problem in lower rooms on the main ride, but less so on the side street. All in all, a good place to stay for business or exploring Rio.

Nice staff, good location for public transportation. Breakfast could be better. Clean, safe, good staff that was helpful. Not too expensive and a <5 minute walk from Copa beach. cabs were plentiful and not too expensive.

This hotel has the advantage of being 50 meters from the beach of Copacabana.
But it is too noisy. From 6 in the morning when the traffic on in Copacabana Avenue, you can not sleep anymore.
And it has a horrible decor. Too old.
Has the advantage of having a courteous and friendly personal. The breakfast is rich.
Cheap.

Good accomodations and reasonable price for the rooms. I stayed 6 days without any kind of problem with the hotel and service. The location is reasonable close to the main places to go but the neighborhood is a little bit unsafety.

I stayed here for 3 nights and I was quite happy with my choice. Hotels are very expensive in this area so this place is a good option if you are looking for somewhere convenient, clean and safe to sleep and you don't require 5 star hotel facilities. The main plus is the location. 3 minutes walk to the metro and 3 minutes walk to the quieter end of the Copacabana beach (at the end nearer to the Leme beach). From here you can also walk to Ipanema and Leblon if you like exercise.

As other posters have said the hotel room decor and bed linen are old fashioned, but the place is well maintained and is very clean. The room was on the 7th (top) floor. It was small and had an LCD tv with maybe 3 english language channels and 30 or so in other languages. There was a very large safe, which was big enough to take an ipad and even a laptop computer. There was a clunky minibar fridge which made a bit too much noise for my liking but i got used to it. There was a small balcony big enough to seat maybe two chairs but I am not sure you'd used this very much as it just faces onto a residental street.

Wifi internet was free and worked well.

Most of the staff seemed to have very little english so don't expect to be charmed by them. Most of my interactions with them were fairly functional.

Breakfast in my view was very good. The breakfast room itself is small so go early or late if you want maximum comfort. Plenty of choices, including fruit, meats, cheeses, bread, cereal and scrambled eggs. Juices are not real juice but that seems to be common in this part of the world for some reason. The coffee was really excellent.

If you are the kind of person who finds it difficult to sleep through traffic and other general city noises then bring earplugs. This part of Rio is a noisy place 24 hrs a day and this hotel does not have soundproofed windows.

Having read so much online about dangers in Rio I have to say that the area felt very safe, even at night. There are plenty of eating and drinking options in the nearby streets. Try some of the options the locals use in these side streets rather than the tourist restaurants on the seafront. The nearest supermarket is about 3 blocks from the hotel almost directly across from the metro station. Drugstores/pharmacies are on every street corner and stay open late.

This hotel is on the bus route from the international airport so if you want to avoid the expense of a taxi (50 to 70 reals in 2012) then the bus is a good option. On Copacabana beach get off the bus at the Copacabana Palace Hotel on Atlantic Avenue and from there its a two minute walk up Rua Republica do Peru to get to the Apa hotel. For the return journey to the airport stand by the cylce lane at one of the stop lights on Atlantic Avenue and hail the bus (marked Aeroporto International) as it comes past (there are no official bus stops for the airport bus it seems but hailing the bus really does work). They run about every 30 minutes and the journey to the airport takes about an hour, so give yourself plenty of time.

Room Tip: The decor on some of the lower floors seem to be more modern than the higher floors. Bring airplugs...

Expensive in our stay due to Rio +20.
great breafast, nice staff but not that good at explaining tour options.
head to info stand by beach to get map as the one hotel gives u is too small.
there is also free shuttle from beach to Rio Sur the big shopping mall but easy to get there also by bus.
easy location to catch transport as 2 streets really to catch bus. one going to central n one away, towards ipanema. 2 blocks from metro also.
old end of cocapbana but good juice bar close by.
very narrow elevator so they take ur luaggage up another way.
ask for room not opp elevator as u will hear all the comings n goings.
