“Homeless people live in carboad box near the entrance of the hotel...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

The hotel is simple and a bit dingy. The staff is nice but unhelpful.
The problem is that an entire homeless family lives near the entrance of the hotel. They lie
there, they urinate and defecate there and they are rather aggressive.
I asked the hotel staff manager (Jose I think..) why they do not do something about it and I got no real answer..... Stay away. It is unpleasant and intimidating and you have to walk by these homeless people (who have been living there for months I was told by one of the porters) every time you leave the hotel.

I love this place.
We stayed in Paysandu for two weeks or so this month. Its on a lovely leafy street right by the beach.
The staff are fantastic. Friendly and polite.
The rooms are a good size. The hotel is excellent value for Rio.
The breakfast is very good quality.
Yes the hotel charges for internet and the internet is slow. But so what! Its in Rio de Janeiro! Who cares about the internet! Its a good quality hotel at a very reasonable price, in a lovely area of Rio with great staff,a good breakfast, good transport connections. What more do you want!?
I felt like this place was 'home from home'. The staff made me feel very welcome. The lobby is a nice place to relax. Our room on floor 7 had a lovely balcony to enjoy the view.I love this place. When i next go to Rio I will definitely be staying here. Paysandu meu amor

Room Tip: we stayed on floor 7 where there are shared bathrooms but they were right opposite the room and very...

The hotel is in the Flamengo area of Rio de Janeiro. The area is very pleasant and relatively safe. The room was OK. Nice lobby and very good breakfast. Staff helpful. Good communication by public transport. Metro station Largo do Chamado is a few minutes walk and the seaside road is even closer where buses can be found to all parts of the city.

Room Tip: rooms on he seventh floor are less desireable

Run away !!!!
It is such a bad bad bad hotel and from the dinosaurs edge ! It is so old, the rooms have an horrible smell, and it is just impossible to sleep with the noise of the conditioning air. But worst, the breakfast is far from being good and the personals are not sympathetic at all. We also needed to pay 15 RS to use the Wi-fi. And to finish is very expensive (280 RS / nearly 100 Euros). Never go there !

I stayed here with a group tour. I thought that with a group tour and carnival on that the hotel would have planned for security. I ended up with a room mate that allowed two people that had purposefully not booked a hotel to sleep in the bathroom of the room. We woke up to surprise squatters in our bathroom and unable to use the bathroom.

In addition you could just ask for a room key and reception would not check identity. on several occasions i requested that due to the situation that had occurred to please check identity for my room so that these squatters could not be allowed in our simply pick up my key.

Only on several requests did they implement my request. But this backfired as unfortunately when my friend who is staying at another hostel picked me up from my hotel early in the morning to go to sugar loaf they then accused him of staying in the room and would not allow them thru. Clearly they have no clue and there is no one watching the cameras otherwise they would be on top of the security and not make these mistakes.

Something simple like a wrist band would sort this issue out and a register of visitors visiting the rooms to sign in and out would sort out their problem and improve security.

Aircon in hotel bad.
Room average, dark, no windows
Security shocking
Breakfast ok
No English speaking staff especially when receiving an English dominated tour for the carnival
Wifi bad

Hotel rooms a small, dark and the air conditioning is basic at best. The beds are incredibly small. Hotel staff are not very helpful and will give your room key to anyone who asks for it. Bathrooms are old and not very clean. Lobby area and lounge areas are not air conditioned. Wifi is really slow and hard to get onto when a large number guests are trying to use it. Breakfast included in the price was ok. There are hotels located close by that are much better value for money

Needed a hotel well located and not expensive (difficult task in Rio)

The room, towels, bathroom and bed linen were ok and clean. The best thing about my stay was the breakfast, many options (fruits, juices, breads, cakes, etc) and included in the rate. Though it's not a new building, it`s well preserved. Really nice experience if you don't enjoy cramped rooms.

The only problems were some leaking a/c unit that produced an annoying noise the whole night as the drops fell on my room's a/c and the wifi internet - on the website they mention rooms equipped with wireless internet, but forgot to mention it's not part of the rate, there's a daily fee which turns out to be expensive if you just need to check your emails or some addresses before going out (a nuisance if your phone's internet isn't collaborating as well)

Staff 's really welcoming and kind.
