“WORST front desk staff ever!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

The front desk staff here were the worst we have ever experienced. They were rude, unhelpful and disinterested in any concerns we had. We asked for help with very simple tasks such as making an international call from our room (to deal with credit card fraud) and got minimal help, had to ask multiple times as the instructions given each time did not work. They did not want to help us book any tours, and could not recommend any places to eat with a child.

Unfortunately this really has tarred our experience here and would NOT recommend this hotel at all. They speak no other language but Portuguese which is surprising considering it is an international hotel and that they advertise they speak English as well.

We have stayed in other hotels in Rio and have never had such a difficult front desk issue. This front desk staff here are completely useless and disinterested. Do not stay here because of them! So sad since this hotel had so much potential.

The cleaning staff however are pleasant, efficient and friendly.

We stayed at the Hotel Astoria Copacabana for 2 nights. The rooms was very small and the air condition didn't really work, so that it was very hot.
The pool outside was very nice, not too big, but there is no need for a pool, if you can walk in 4 minutes to the beach.
Breakfast was very good: fresh local juices, lot of selection that changed from day to day.
Room service was very fast and payable.

Located two blocks from Copacabana beach, this hotel offers a pleasant atmosphere, all modern amenities, and a helpful staff.
Although it seems the hotel has been renovated, probably upgrading it from a three star hotel, it does not justify a rate of over $300 per night for a 4 bed room. An additonal comment on the critical side: during breakfast, the waiters do very little to reset used tables for additional guests, so you have to find yourself gathering cuttlery from other tables.
Despite all these, however, a rather pleasant experience.

We stayed here for New Years eve. Rude staff. I called the reception 3 times looking for towels, toilet paper etc, I am still waiting. Our room was never cleaned once. The food was awful. It seemed the staff went out of their way to do as little work as possible. Far too expensive for what you get. The location is the only good thing. I do not reccomend this hotel to anyone. Again staff were really rude, bordering on insulting!!! The receptionist was talking to her friend on the phone while we waited for ten minutes to be looked after, she could clearly see us waiting and kept talking on the phone. Do not stay here!!!!!

I stayed 1 week at this property. Unfortunately hotel is old, overpriced and neglected. I made a booking in a category to find out later on it was below Standard. They have micro rooms, very small with 1 single bed that they call Economy. Would never imagine how small that was!!!

Internet in the room is paid.

Bathroom very small and flooded after my showers. Walls had damp .

The breakfast was good thou, the location too. Very easy to get anywhere from there and it's in a safe area full of shops and restaurants.

I wouldn't recommend because it was not worth it what I paid for the room.

Room Tip: If on your own, never book category Economy.

Stayed at this hotel, when I,was on holidays there last year, staff very friendly, food plain but very filling,if you wanted any trips about the city, they (staff at reception ),would set it all up for you, with English speaking guides. Also it was cheaper, than going to a shop, for the tours.
If football on.it's a must to sample, for the atomsphere.
Weather was great, sun every day, hottest when there was 32 degrees, and coldest was 24degrees
