“Good well located hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

I've just returned from Rio after spending four nights at this hotel. It's location is great right on copacabana beach at the ipanema end. You literally exit the front door cross the road and your right on the beach. It's advertised as a 4 star but I'd probably class it as a good quality 3.5 star (uk std) staff at reception spoke decent English and were always friendly, polite and willing to help with any enquiries. There's a small restaurant on the premises that serves a free breakfast in the morning and evening meals tho I never ate here at night. Breakfast was ok. Nothing special but did the job first thing in the morning. Loads of pastries, cereals, cold meats , fruit juices and scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages. Buffet style so you can help yourself. There's also a small bar that opens after 16:00 but again never used it. The hotels right next door to the Sofitel and we spent a lot of time in the bars in there. Food and drink prices were surprisingly reasonable for a Sofitel and the bar has outside seating overlooking copacabana beach!
Rooms were clean and comfortable. I'd recommend avoiding the basic ones as they seemed really small. I stayed in a deluxe which was a decent size. There was a flat screen tv , mini bar again reasonably priced and good air conditioning. We were on the 8th floor and you do get a bit of street noise at night but don't let that put you off as you quickly get used to it. The only downside is that there are no irons in the room and you can't even get one at reception. All laundry including ironing has to be done by housekeeping which incurs a cost.
The hotel has a very small rooftop pool which is fine for cooling down but not swimming ( but then the beach is across the road) few loungers and tables and the gym is located up there too. The gym as in most hotels is pretty poor. Couple of treadmills, bike, and some weights. Also a sauna but never used it.
The location of this hotel is great. Loads of bars and restaurants in the area and only a 10 minute walk from Ipanema.
I know other folk voiced concerns re security in rio on tripadvisor but I never experienced any problems anywhere I went. The area around the hotel was really safe and I never felt concerned at anytime. Obviously be aware of who's around you and stick to the main areas as in any large cities. Plan your route before you set out so your not standing staring at a big map and I'd recommend using taxis instead of buses just purely because its easier and quicker to grab a taxi than waiting on the usually crowded buses. Taxis are really cheap too.
I'd definately recommend hotel Orla to anyone thinking of going to Rio. The location is great and for the price good value for money.
I'd also say if your thinking about Rio but concerned about some reviews re safety don't be. As I said earlier felt really safe and no problems. Just be alert and don't draw attention to yourself by wearing loads of jewelry etc. Rio's a great place to visit.

Ok, the hotel is located at a very, very nice area, write in front of Copacabana Beach and a 2 minute walk from the Fort (where you can enjoy a wonderful breakfast along with an awesome view).
However, apartments don't seem to be cleaned appropriate, as there is dust all over: behind the bed, under the bed, on the telephone cord (a lot of dust, by the way), and on the edges of the wall.
Regardless my direct complaint (showing pictures) nobody seemed to care and I had to take medicines for allergy in order to try to have a good night sleep.
As for the room and bathroom sizes, they're worse the economy class seats on an airplane!

This hotel has off course one really big bonus and that is location! on the copacana! and you can walk to Ipanema! Hotel is showing some age. Pool and Gym are very small. The view from the porch is gorgeous (best place to make a Copacana picture!). The price is decent compared to the other hotels on Copacabana! (you pay for that). There are a few restaurants nearby (churrascuria with meals around 30 real) nearby and a 24 hour bakery/restaurant on the next block! Staff speaks well English and can also help with tours. Breakfast was decent. The room was a bit outdated but clean. There were no irons in the rooms and you cannot loan one from the hotel... they will only iron for your for some reals.. thats a neg! if you dont want to spend too much but be on the Copacabana than this is your place!

Very good location, walking distance to Ipanema beach, nice terrace on top to enjoy the beautiful view of Copacabana beach. Very helpful with tours and recommendations to restaurants. We stayed for 2 nights and had a very good time with no complaints.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a beach view

Positive side, the location in front of the copacabana beach, great place to enjoy the rio janeiro vibe.., to walk.. in the summer...

regular, negative side, in general the staff it is not very friendly, they are not very helpful, the rooms are ok (do not expect a modern hote), the breakfast area is small, they do not have many options

there are other (value / price) hotels nearby instead of this one, just reserve with 2 or 3 months ahead...

Room Tip: Do not reserve a street view room, you are in copacabana, the difference is not large...

I stayed in the Orla for one night and had a room on the 6th floor overlooking the beach.
The size of the room and bathroom was more than adequate, maybe smaller than the average American hotel room, but larger than what you get in Paris and London.
The room and bathroom seemed recently renovated.
Breakfast was great.

The only reason why I do not give 5 stars is the noise level that comes through the windows. Single glazing is not sufficient to keep out the noise, which seems to go on all night.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the better due to the noise, but definitely facing the beach and sugar loaf mo...

Location is everything, which is why the Orla Copacabana Hotel is a great choice when deciding on where to stay in Rio. Situated beach front only a walk away from the beautiful waters of Copacabana, the Orla is a great place to start when experiencing Rio. You can literally start there and see where the day takes you!

For the location, room (get a beach view -- it is worth the extra), service (breakfast and wifi included), location (duh) and helpful staff, one would think it would be more expensive, but to travelers on a budget and still want to experience a real vacation, I'd recommend this place any day! Loved this hotel and I would stay here again.

Also, plenty of restaurants, shopping, music, transportation, caipirinhas (most important) surrounding the area. Amazing location!

Room Tip: Beach view all the way.
