I'll start off with the great things about the hotel: the friendly, efficient staff and the perfect location. The hotel is in a great location in Copacabana, as close as you can get to the beach, and with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. The breakfast was terrific, but don't go for soggy scrambled eggs. There are delicious, tropical fruit and a wide variety of breads and cakes, the typical Brazilian breakfast. There was also wireless internet. Even though it worked only about 80 percent of the time I was there, it was free. Now for the negatives... the worst was the nasty odor. My room smelled like urine. The hotel is in desperate need of renovation, but probably feels dirtier than it actually is because of the odor. Also, the window of my room faced other apartments, so if I opened the curtain other people could see me. However, there are only black-out drapes, so if I closed them the room was very dark. Simple solution: a lighter curtain to line the drapes. What bothered me the most was that the hotel is listed as a 4-star. Had it been more appropriately listed as a 2-star, my expectations would have been on par with the reality of the property.
