We first found the hotel by looking at Gate 1. They used this hotel in Rio. By the time we were actually going, Gate 1 didn't use the Savoy Othon anymore. I talked to the hotel personnel about it and they said they didn't know either. Many other groups from the US and other places did, however.
My husband and I found it to be a good hotel for the value. It was within 2 blocks of the Copabana beach. Beach towels were furnished for people wanting to use them. Our room was clean, the buffet breakfast was plentiful. Marcos worked at the front desk in the daytime. We found him to be more helpful with the questions we had. There is free service to the airport and to the hotel from the airport.. We would stay there again.

Hotel in great location (close to underground and 1 street from Copacabana beach, walking distance to Ipanema area). Good buffet style breakfast is included, staff speaks good English. It is 2 star hotel so don't expect luxury but basic clean rooms - view is poor as you face the building on the opposite street or building wall at the back. If you can stay try to stay on higher floor to avoid noise from the street.
Overall we found it good value for money and as we hardly stayed in the room during the day this hotel did the job. It is definitely recommended for people looking for decent clean room and planning to spend their time exploring Rio than staying inside.

ps. at the time of our stay there were some building work happening near so it was a bit noisy from 9 to 5pm

When I look for a hotel, I usually don´t look for luxury since I usually only use it to sleep, but for me is very important the cleanliness and comfort mainly on the bed and pillows.

I will start by saying the good things of the hotel, it is well located and the staff of the hotel is very friendly, helpful and willing to help the guests.

The bad things of the hotel are: It is not so clean, mainly the bathroom; the bed is very uncomfortable, and so the pillows; and the breakfast was also very bad.

In my opinion, there are many details that should be taken care of, and a serious remodeling is a must.

My friend and I stayed here for four nights. The rooms only have twin beds. The service was okay- they spoke English quite well, but were unable to give many recommendations of places to go/eat and things to do. They didn't clean our room the last two nights, even though we asked them to. We asked for a hair dryer for three nights, and even though they said they were going to bring it up, we never got it!

When booking, try to ask for a 13th floor room with a balcony, if they are available. The rooms are significantly bigger and the balcony is large as well. Otherwise, the rest of the rooms have no view at all.

It's only a block from the beach in Copacabana beach, which is nice. We ended up eating breakfast at a great corner juice bar just next to the hotel every morning, so I don't really know how the breakfast was.

I wouldn't mind staying there again- it was good for the price- but wouldn't recommend it to couples looking for a romantic getaway. This is more of a good place to stay if travelling with friends.
