We booked for six nights, based on price and location. It is perfectly situated for the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. Ipanema was our clear favourite. Our room, 605 had a bad smell to it, but so did the whole hallway on that floor. The fan/aircon took some of it away, but it was noticable upon entering the room, even though the aircon had been on for a few hours. The lights and aircon is activated when you slide the key card into a thing beside the door, so you cant have it running while you´re out of the room. We used a private plastic card instead. The housekeeper removed this on one occasion... I guess she didnt notice the smell...

Breakfast was ok, with lots of fruits and juices as the main attraction. Breads, hams and cheese was about average for a 3 star hotel.

The rooftop pool is small and cold: perfect after a long day in the heat! Also the view from the roof is very nice. There are showers, restrooms and sunloungers on the roof aswell.

So, location, price and roof are the positive things about the Atlantis!

Really liked staying here in Rio (though the weather was awful) - hotel staff mostly friendly (particularly an older gentleman on the door), great pool, nice rooms, seriously quality breakfast.

A safe area to walk around too - if you're not in the mega-bucks category, hard to go wrong with this place.

I spent two nights in the Atlantis Copacabana Hotel towards the end of March 2007, before heading to Búzios. In the past I've stayed at Sol Ipanema and Praia Ipanema, both very nice hotels. This time I decided to splurge a bit on my pousada in Búzios, and not spend so much in Rio de Janeiro.

The Atlantis Copacabana was a great find! It is an excellent hotel for its category and price. Helpful staff, large clean room, great location, abundant breakfast buffet. The minibar was one of the best stocked I've seen in any hotel. The room had a very large bed, a small color TV with cable, a/c, a table with two chairs, attractive bathroom, etc. Great views from the rooftop pool. Two PCs in the lobby for internet -- I don't recall if there was a charge, which means there was either no charge or it was inconsequential. Even though the hotel has "Copacabana" in its name, it's just steps from everything in Ipanema.

I must say, the hotel pleasantly surprised me. It's not a luxurious beachfront hotel, but it is a very solid option at a great price. I hope to stay there on my next trip to Rio de Janeiro.

We spent 4 nights in this hotel. The location is excellent - 3 minutes walking to both Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. The neighborhood seems to be safer than the rest of Copacabana, although we did not walked around much.

The hotel itself worths more than 3 stars, and after being in 3 star hotels in Argentina, it was a very nice surprise. We got very spacious room with really king-sized bed. All public spaces are decorated with a taste. Almost all personal speaks fluent English and they helped us to choose and book all excursions.

The only minus we have seen was too little dining room - it is much smaller than has to be, so that in the mornings, there were people that had their breakfast standing. Probably, this is the only reason that this hotel did not receive 4 star rating.
