“One idyllic night on arrival in Rio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013 via mobile

Difficult to fault the Hotel and its rooms which are exceptional, every small detail thought through and guests being able to enjoy the grace of old fashioned communal areas. The upstairs terrace overlooking Copacabana seems to be a space that could be used for a bar or for socializing as an alternative to the existing options, adding to the attractiveness of the Hotel as a whole. Pool area idyllic and pool glorious. Pergola delightful but guests should be told that reservations needed at Cipriani as we could not get in that night so we had lunch dinner and breakfast at the same place. Service at Pergola a little erratic, but warm and friendly. Pergola shuts at midnight leaving only an inside piano bar or the nightclub, slightly odd at the busiest time of the year. Reception and concierge in a class of their own, nothing is too much. Spa lovely. We had a wonderful 24 hours and will be back, the Hotel left an impression of a extraordinarily genuine place, caring for its guests in a uniquely timeless fashion even when at its busiest. Our sort of place!

My wife and I spent a few nights here in December. This was really an excellent hotel. The furnishings were nice , the staff was very helpful and pleasant and the location was incomparable. ....the breakfast was outstanding too. My wife enjoyed the pool which was large enough for her to swim laps. We don't stay in hotels this nice very often but I am very glad that we stayed here.

A late (19:00) arrival following an unexpected decision to undertake a tour of Rio on day 1 rather than day 2 because our tour guide (Neyla - see review) believed, correctly as it turned out, that the next day was to be rainy despite our arrival day being 40Degrees C. Absolutely no problem at the hotel, checkin was smooth and seamless and our room (Suite) 0453 was exactly as expected with a beautiful pool and beach view, living room, bedroom and bathroom. We were aware that the hotel was under some renovation, but it is fair to say that once settled in, it was almost impossible to tell - no noise or other distractions.
Our suite was very spacious, very olde worlde, clean and comfortable, and also had the expected free WIFI etc travellers should expect. The external appearance of the hotel appears classic and unchanged except for the renovation work.
Breakfast was not the hotel's strongest point but it was still acceptable for a 5 star hotel. Pre-dinner drinks at the Cipriani Bar were enjoyed in a very stylish and elegant atmosphere. We did not choose to eat at the Cipriani Restaurant but did on one occasion eat at the hotel's Pergula Restaurant pleasantly situated poolside.
It was rather strange that the drinks menu at Pergula was quite different to the drinks menu at Cipriani Bar. Language difficulty was experienced at this restaurant at lunch and dinner and service tended to be a little slow, but these were only minor distractions in our overall two night stay.
The Concierge and front desk staff at this hotel were exceptional. We had not received notification from our airline that the time of departure for our flight from Sao Paulo has been brought forward 7 hours and the Concierge and front of desk staff provided exceptional support (and translation) in our satisfactory resolution of this problem.
This is a world class hotel which will only be better after the renovations.

Room Tip: Our pool/ocean beach view room (0453) was excellent.

We arrived at the Copacabana Palace Hotel at about 9.30pm local time on the 21/12/12 after a near 12 hour flight from Heathrow. We were a party of 5 people. Our rooms were next to each other. Our rooms were both of a high quality, there was a turn down service and the towels were changed twice a day. Breakfasts were in a nice air conditioned room beside the pool and were of a very high quality. The hotel is still being refurbished but you would not know this unless you went to level one from near the reception and I suspect this will be complete come February when the carnival is on and the tennis is court is not available. There were plenty of sunbeds around a lovely pool and staff were very obliging.
The only problem we encountered was in Cipriani resturant where we were very disappoined with the quality of service. We told the head waiter that the staff were not attentative enough because they were talking amongst themselves and i had to ask for our wine to be fetched back to refill the glasses. Our meals were fine but i left disappoined after our experience. We did a full day trip up sugar loaf mountain and Christ the Redeemer. We were in the hotel for 3 nights before flying to Igaussu falls Hotel das Cataratas for 2 nights and then back to Rio Windsor Atlantica Hotel for 3 nights. I will be putting reviews on these other 2 hotels shortly.

This place is amazing!

We had a sea view room with a balcony on the 5th floor its more than that as there are about 5 floors named with letters, I was too chilled to count. Our friends also took the suite next door and we were able to close a door to make what was a HUGE apartment!

Break fast was a bit on the poor side but room service is brilliant!

The staff could not do enough to help us and made our stay amazing.

It is one of those iconic hotels where you wish that the walls could tell stories

Its up there as one most expensive hotels we have stayed in If your budget can stretch to this then go for it!

*tip make sure you ask for a room on the 5th floor with a balcony we stayed in 511

Although this hotel is on the "wrong beach" in rio, it's got everything else right. A bit pricey for sure, but this hotel is all old world class. One look at the pool and I was in love great service. Great proximity to the New Years festivities. Simply one of the best. Please note I stayed there a couple years back but judging by more recent reviews, nothing has changed. I can't wait to go back.

This is a lovely looking hotel from both the outside and inside. The staff all are very friendly and always happy to help. Our first room was on the second floor overlooking a main road, which unfortunately was very busy with traffic which woke me up at 4.00am in the morning and after a 13 and half hour flight did not please me. However, we were moved the next day to the 8th floor, which was still a little noisy but was ok. Our room and bathroom were both spacious, clean and comfortable. We only had breakfast in the hotel once, and to be honest it was as all hotel breakfasts are so we didn't bother again. Although the pool looked nice we did not use it as we went to the beach which was a short stroll across the road. Here, the hotel supplied a sun bed, umbrellas, towels and water and fruit. There were vendors that came along with variety of things that they sold from wraps to food and drink, but were very happy to go if you said no.
The hotel has a lovey old world colonial feel about it from the decor to the service, and although there were some areas that looked a bit tired and could benefit from a little uplift, it did not detract from the overall ambience for me.
During our stay we were invited to a champagne cocktail party and to have a look at the new penthouse apartments that have just been completed, which were stunning as well as the Spa, boutique shop and the H Stern jewellers all which are within the hotel.
This is a lovely hotel, that was a base for my husband and I to eat locally, stroll to the beach and shop at the markets that popped up here and there along the streets.

Room Tip: Higher floors facing the road here the traffic less
