I stayed at the Sofitel Copacabana recently and it was an excellent stay. The service could not have been any better. The location was fantastic and my view of Copacabana beach was so good that it is now the wallpaper photo on my phone. The only issues were that the rooms smelled slightly musty (from years of humidity in the air) and the rooms were a bit small. Otherwise it was a phenomenal stay.

We stayed at Sofitel for 3 nights over the Christmas holiday - it was the start to our 2 week adventure in Brazil. The room was a good size and the views were fantastic - we paid extra for the balcony facing Copacabana (the view was the best part of the room). The hotel needs some updates, it was a bit drab, dark and felt damp at times from the humidity. While the Sofitel is on Copacabana, it's on the end and Ipanema is only a short walk away. The Horseshoe Bar was great - we always came back from dinner and had a nightcap there.

Went to this hotel for 1st time 7 years ago and the service was great.
For this time, staying 10 days over Christmas and new Year, in a Suite, I find everything very tired.
Room was find, but honestly if I had to pay the normal rate at the back of the door, I would be very disappointed.
I am a Platinum Favourite Guest card and I never seen any manger at all for all my stay.
Management seems not existing in this hotel and this why everything is wrong.

Public areas are very tired, limit clean(especially toilets in the lobby) pool is not bad but should have the 1st one just for adults and not children's jumping around when it's forbidden.
Food was ok for lunch, bar has nothing attractive except the view, should be totally renovated..Photos on website are not showing the reality.
Restaurant was out of stock of our 2 favourite wines after 4 days(this in Christmas time!)
We had flowers in our room, but after 6 days I had to put them outside, they didn't change water or flowers at all.
The well coming gift was a kettle and herb tea... but only one cup and no any more sachets in the 10 days, this is the most ridiculous gift I ever had as a Platinum card.
The turndown evening service was not always very good but one person was amazing, Ruth! she was the only one very professional here.
One good thing was the view for the firework on new Year.
Overall, not very happy and will not go back there.

Room Tip: best to choose sea view.

We stayed at the Sofitel for 3 nights at the start of our holiday in South America with our 3 children. The view from the rooms was fantastic and we were offered inter-connecting which was a bonus. The rooms were fairly small and there was no bath in the bathroom, just a large walk-in shower, which we actually preferred. The furniture in the rooms was looking a little worn. Both of the pools were great, and by having the two, it meant that you could always find shade from the sun. The concierge service was excellent and most of the other staff were very friendly and helpful. Our only complaint would be that there were not enough sunbeds/umbrellas on the beach. We went over one morning and tried to find somewhere to sit in the shade, which proved impossible. The beach attendant was neither friendly or helpful. We would be happy to stay here again!

Room Tip: Definitely request room with a view of Copacabana beach/Sugar Loaf!

New year eve in the beach of Copacabana is a world's great event. The Sofitel is just in front of the beach and we (Group of 10 from 1 to 70) had a nice Buffett from 9 to 11 p.m. and after went to the beach and joined the over two million white dressed people, enjoying new year. At 12 a.m. sharp we had for 15 minutes the best fireworks we have seen in many years. Great night up to 2 a.m.
The hotel has great beds and a pillows menu to satisfy every taste. Breakfast in outstanding overlooking the Copacabana beach. Two swimming pools were a paradise on the first day of 2013.

Overall disappointing,poor service in most of their bars and restaurants. Room was small and smelt of dampness - dont chose 316! Hotel is well situated and on the positive the concierge are on the ball and very helpful and professional!!

We tried Le pre Catalan restaurant- but poor service and it was rated one of the best in Rio- but found a piece of plastic in my foie gras- told the waiter but they reacted as if it was normal??! we had to literally to pour our own wine in the end and actually walked eventually as asked for the bill several times and no one brought it to us until we got to the elevator!
