“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

Stayed here for two nights in September. Perfect location in the middle of Copacabana beach. Staff always delightful. Definitely take them up on their transfer to the airport. Lovely cars and only slightly more than a taxi. Rooms very clean and spacious. Wish I had paid more for a sea view though.

The best part of the hotel was the staff. They were very friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Leonardo checked me in and his English was perfect. I found a few people who didn't speak English but they quickly found someone who did. Breakfast was included and was superb with a great selection. The roof top gym is small but nice with new machines. The pool is also rooftop with a spectacular view but is very small - about the same size as two normal size hot tubs. The pictures are deceiving. The location is great, right across from Copacabana. My room was disappointing because it opened onto the atrium and was dark. It was comfortable and very quiet.

Room Tip: Get a beach view room.

Stayed at this hotel last August 2013. The rooms are spacious, complete amenities even flat iron. The location is right in front of Copacabana Beach which is perfect for tourists who love to hangout at the beach. They offer free use of chair, towel and umbrella at Copacabana Beach so there's no need to rent.

Got to say that they have the best customer service. The concierge was ALWAYS helpful! They arrange our tours at the football game & colonial tour and not even that they helped me buy an Ayrton Senna Shirt (most famous Brazilian car racer) for my boyfriend's dad. The shirt is not available in Rio but it was in Sao Paulo, so what they did was they ordered online and they paid at the bank, then I got the shirt the very next day right at their counter :) who would do that? Two THUMBS UP for their concierge!!!

Did I mention that you can ask for unlimited bottled water! We always ask for water when going out so that we don't have to buy drinks at the restaurants (waters are very pricey when you order at the restos) :)

Though Wifi inside the rooms is not free, a fee worth R$35 per day or R$80 for 3 days is required. However they offer free unlimited wifi access at the lobby and second floor area.

I love staying at JW Marriot Hotel, perfect for those people who want a worry-free, upscale lodging and first class service!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is in front of the beach area so you can have a nice view of Copacabana Beach

My girlfriend and I spend 5 nights in Rio in early September and cannot say enough good things about the JW Marriott Rio. The staff was amazing, extremely, friendly and even a touch of humor. The recommendations for restaurants nearby were great, the were good at giving us guidance for safety in walking at night, and the beach in front of the hotel has a small section for Marriott guests with some nicer chairs. As a Marriott rewards Gold, the lounge use was fantastic, great breakfast, free drinks/snacks at night, and very helpful staff during the check in/check out process as well as during the day. I plan to make this my go to hotel in Rio.

We stayed four nights at the JW and had a great experience. Check-in on the concierge level was easy and quick. The entire hotel staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. Complimentary breakfast on the concierge level was very good, and fairly typical for a Marriott. We tried out the restaurant one day for lunch and it was delicious. We asked how a certain Brazilian bar drink was made and the staff invited us to come behind the bar and taught us how to make the drink. The location of the hotel is ideal, about in the middle of Copacabana Beach, making it an excellent location for walks or short taxi rides to Ipanema Beach and many restaurants and shopping. The hotel pool is on the top floor of the hotel, affording terrific views of Rio. The hotel has a group of attended, free lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach, which is across the street. Our room, a small suite, was very comfortable and quiet. It faced the atrium, with no exterior view, but it was brightly lit and did not seem too enclosed. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We traveled as a family of three. The mini suite was just perfect, with master bedroom and bath, plu...

The staff make a hotel experience often and the staff at this hotel were great. I had stayed here a number of years ago but it has improved and the experience was a good one.

I got an atrium room which was the only downside of the experience. I was offered an upgrade to a beach view room but did not think it was worth it for me as I was not planning on spending much time there. I am sure they are spectacular. The view from the rooftop pool area is amazing.

The bed was comfortable and the room, although somewhat spartan, was clean and all that you need. The shower was good and the water pressure excellent.

The bar and restaurant were excellent and if you wanted to stay in, you would be very happy. But you are in Rio so have a drink the in bar and get out there.

I just stayed there 3 nights ago. I'm a Marriott gold maember and was booked in a 1 bedroom ocean view suite so this review is specific to the room and the services I received as a gold member. From what I understand, the atrium rooms are quite depressing as they have no windows. Furthermore, the rooms in Rio are known to be extremely small. It is also important to note that I have moved to the Copacabana Palace. Had I not moved, I probably would have given this hotel 5 stars.

Check in was a breeze, highly recommend for you to book in an executive floor if you can, even better if you can get a 1 bedroom suite with ocean view. The check in is on the 9th floor where the lounge is and you get an exceptional view of Rio (probably one of the best views in town).

The suite was large (especially for Rio standards) - around 700 sq ft. Havaiana slippers for you to keep. Bathroom had nice finishes (but it looked like the shampoo and the conditioner was refilled rather than new). Bedding was comfortable. Perfect view - the view was probably the best part of it. If you have internet it is extremely fast at the Marriott (compared to the free/slow internet at Copacabana palace).

Concierge was decent but pretty non-helpful. They can give you basic information and needs. Again, now that I'm at the palace, the concierge there is at least 10X better/stronger/well connected.

Breakfast was included for me which was quite basic. They had a private area on the beach at Copa and the man servicing the area was quite attentive. It is a little bit far from the waves.

Checking out, there have been previous reviews talking about the currency. They are true, they use some sort of unfavorable exchange rate (which is apparently Brazilian law) so I recommend booking on some sort of travel agency and getting the flat rate (unless of course you're collecting points).

I paid for the suite what I paid for a regular superior room at the palace where I also don't have a view. I would take palace/no view any day of the week over JW, Suite, Free breakfast, fast internet, great view any day. (Suite prices out at around 720/night, Copacabana at around 700/night for superior room).

Room Tip: ocean view suite is probably the best practical room (they only have 1 bedroom suites and then it go...
