“A truly wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW via mobile

The Royal Tulip is amongst the best hotels I have experienced around the world.
The surroundings are breathtaking. Having previously stayed by the hectic Copacobana, the Royal Tulip was like a sanctuary inside Rio. The area is very safe, the beach beautiful and quiet. The hotel has it's own sun loungers with staff positioned on the beach. The outdoor pool area is vast with lots of seating and sun loungers.
All staff throughout the hotel are very welcoming and friendly. The reception team are very helpful.
The restaurant/bar has a fantastic menu, great staff.

This hotel is located on Sao Conrado beach (pronounced "Corhado") and is 4km south of Copacabana.
This 4 star hotel is faces directly onto the sea front and is immaculately clean and well presented.
All staff are extremely courteous, polite, helpful and attentative; the service is first class
The beach is readily accessible unlike it's neighbours: Copacabana; Ipanema; Leme and Leblon with their extortionate accomodation prices.
The hotel is well served by a quality restaurant and bar: the breakfeast choice is of a high standard and caters for all tastes.
The hotel is well served by a variety of buses and taxis for the adventurous traveller.
We highly recommend this hotel: ask for Anderson, Leo or Gabriella at reception

Room Tip: East or West, take your pick, you wont lose!

The Royal Tulip had the feel of a vacation hotel in an area that was no longer attractive to vacationers. There were no restaurants or shops outside a small mall behind the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that it looks like the area around the hotel in is decline. This is about 20 minutes away from any place the usual tourists go.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a nice view of the golf course and beach. Others have a view of an abandoned hotel.

I wouldn't call this a five star hotel but still it is good value for money. The interior design is quite attractive. The balcony in the room was a very pleasant place to pass your time as it had the perfect combination of the view of the Gavea and sunshine. The room was okay and not so big.

The breakfast was excellent and a great place to pass your time. The selections were outstanding. Their restaurant is quite good and is open til late which is a definite plus because the area around it does not have that much eating options. We got a coupon for a free drink at the terrace bar which is a very nice place to pass your time. The hotel is not on the beach but across a major road from it.

I liked the location in this stretch of beach in Sao Conrado. Just remote enough to be attractive. But the problem with this area is that to get to the main parts of Rio, you must travel the winding coastal road which is often very congested.

Rio was beautiful. The hotel is not on Copacabana or Ipanema beaches, but is on a quieter beach where you can walk in the sand. The surf is stronger and has an undertow so be careful. Wading is fine. The hotel is being refurbished for the 2016 Olympics. The bar area and lobby already is done and is quite nice. The restaurants and bars in the hotel are very good. The pool is nice also.
The lobby bar is fun and they have big screens with video music presentations that are great. Wedson and Danielle in the bar are so friendly and helpful. Kudos to them both.

Room Tip: rooms have views of the beach.

This hotel is a comfortable American 3-star and maybe a European 4 only because of the on-site amenities. While the room itself was comfortable enough (although the bathroom is the size of a closet) - this hotel lacks the details that truly make a luxury experience. To begin with, the Wifi is incredibly spotty - it comes and goes on a regular basis so if you are trying to get work done, forget about it. The hotel has a gym but they do not give you towels (nor do they leave extra towels in the room - 1 face towel and two body towels). If you want a towel in the gym you have to pay for it and you cannot charge it to the room (apparently the gym is not actually part of the hotel even thought it is on site). They also do not provide bottles of water like most luxury hotels. The location is far from everything so you have to take a cab anywhere that you want to go. If you want a luxury experience in Rio, I suggest going elsewhere - if you can get this place cheap it might be worth it but remember to factor in the cab trips.
