I did really want to give this place a decent rating & review but I can only tell it how it is.
We stayed here 31/05/13 & 01/06/13.
My friend and I were in 8 bed dorm & the beds were that crammed in there that I could not get to my bed properly or even get my bag through without moving the other bunk out the way. It realistically should have been a 6 bed dorm, 8 was just ridiculous.
Then my friend attempted to have a shower & it only had cold water.
The first night the wifi did not work & would continuously cut in and out making it very difficult to use.
I thought the price for washing was brilliant R$15 for washing and drying. I was advised that I could drop it off in the morning and it would be ready in the evening. When I checked in the evening I was advised that it was still getting dried and when I was going downstairs I saw that it was hung on a washing line above the other bathroom/toilets!!! (But I paid for it to be dried). I did not get my washing that evening as they were still so wet.
In the morning there was a backlog of people wanting to have a shower & use the toilet & there was a line to be able to use it. Upstairs had 1 bathroom & downstairs had 2 not enough for the amount of people the hostel attempts to cater for.
As we had to check out this morning I went downstairs to ask for my washing & was advised they would check. My friend came to check on me as they saw that the receptionist had gone up stairs. My friend then went back into our dorm (they were gone for literally 30secs) & saw one of the cleaners sitting up on the top bunk above her bed & then saw that the cleaner had my handbag (which I had clipped locked & had on my bottom bunk bed) & she had pulled the zip open without unclipping it and was going through my bag. My friend stood behind her and watched what she was doing and said "excuse me" which startled the cleaner who quickly gave my bag to her. The receptionist came past & my friend advised them of the incident & cleaner appeared to be denying it when she was clearly caught in the action. The receptionist apologised and asked to see if anything was missing which I then had to check my bag over.
I was then told my washing was currently getting organised which it was not as it was still hanging on the washing line. The receptionist then came in and gave me my clothes STILL WET in a bag! I was unable to pack my backpack and had to put all my wet washing in a separate bag so I would be able to transport it.
As I was packing I was furious to find that the cleaner was downstairs having a good old laugh with the other staff just after she was caught attempting to steal from me.
I went to the front receptionist & asked what would be done about the incident & I was advised that they would advise the owner (WHICH I DO NOT KNOW IF I BELIEVE).
I then asked about my washing and was advised that it was not dry because of the weather. I then advised them that now I had to cart around wet clothes to which she replied with that the dryer was broken and it had to hung out on the washing line. I then asked if I could then get half my money back as I paid for it to be dried and it was not. I did manage to get this back. But I did not get any apology from the cleaner who still sat around laughing I got a sorry from the receptionist but I have no confidence that anything will be done about this.
I cannot believe the nerve of the cleaner just plainly attempting to steal from my bag when we are clearly there packing our stuff getting ready to check out.
It was disgusting behaviour and unprofessional to have an employee to steal from your clientele.
Good things: PM receptionist was very friendly and would try and help us in anyway he could when asked a question. The morning receptionist was also friendly, she did apologise but didn't appear to know how to handle the situation.
The breakfast was also good.
