“NOT SO GOOD BUT NOT THAT BAD”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

I spent 5 days in this hotel in a business travel and i have to say that i expected more. The room was clean but a little bit small, but that was not my problem. Most of the staff members were not as polite as they should be. At the front desk, for example, the girl was kind of rude since we arrived. The Maitre d' was another boring person, who looked at us as if he was angry. The location is good but on weekends it is desert. On the positive side is the breakfast and the view at the top of the building.

Luckily I only had one night in this hotel. The location is OK for either airport as I was travelling on to Salvador.
The room was small and exceedingly cramped. You could hardly get round the bed to put your suitecase on the ledge to unpack.
The bedlinen was old and grey. Likewise the towels.
There was a really nasty smell from the shower room when I checked in. It was still there the next morning but by then I had got used to it.
The shower block was not very clean with a used bar of soap from the previous occupant left on the ledge.
The pretty photo makes this hotel look very good from the rooftop. Dont be fooled - the rooms dont come up to scratch.
Find somewhere better to stay.

Not outstanding but OK for the price in Rio.
Bathroom was a bit smelly of drains but quite clean. Toiletries are very basic.
Breakfast buffet good selection with great fresh fruit & lovely coffee.
Room very small with a double bed but comfortable with reasonable aircon.
Would stay here again for the price but check for better value elsewhere. .

As the name says, a business hotel. Good cost/benefits, once it's a renewed hotel, but Rio became very expensive in comparison to other cities.
Good location if your intention is to visit old downtown and SDU airport, but not a location to go to the beach.
Medium breakfast, nice rooms (quiet and clean).

The hotel is very nice and clean, few steps from Cinelandia metro stop and Praca Floriano with many buses that connect you to everywhere in Rio.
The highlight of this hotel is the breakfast: buffet with a very wide choice, from English breakfast to the basic milk with cereals. There are also many juices and a lot of delicious fresh fruit.

One thing I didn't like is that the hotel has only two lifts (stairs are only for emergency use) for 19 floors and more than 200 rooms, which leds you to waiting every time you have to go to your room. On the top floor there is a "swimming pool" that is so small that you can't really swim in it and, still, given the capacity of the hotel, it is really way too small.

The company booked this hotel, so it was not really my choice.
Pros:
- The hotel was renovated 1 year ago. The rooms are small and simple;
- View from the terrace on top floor.

Cons:
- The air-conditioner is very noisy. Without it working, no ventilation. If you open the window, you get noises from other a/c`s and strong smell of food (from the hotel`s restaurant).
- The service at the restaurant is awful. The maitre at night stares at clients all the time, with an annoying expression. Not even a word, even when he takes your order, he just walks away. One day I arrived to have dinner at 10PM and he looked at his watch, than stared at me.
- First day in the breakfast I opened a butter and it had mold inside ! I called the waiter and he just took it away. He didn`t seem surprise, or sorry. He just took it and left.
- Dirty plates (not properly washed, with crusts of food and eggs on the borders). I called another waiter and he acted similar to the other one. No surprise. No sorry. No apologize.
- The restaurant closes at 10:30PM. If you come late from your work, you can only have the limited and expensive room service. A very small bottle of water costs R$ 4.50 (you can buy a bottle 4 times the size of it for R$ 3.80 anywhere).
- The neighborhood does not look safe at night. I would not walk around.
- For a hotel focused on business, paid internet sounds like a joke. The connection is poor and the login system is a challenge for your patient. Everytime you use it, you should go through the process. My colleague needed to print a document and guess what? There is no business center nor printer available. Staff told him to "walk around" and look for a lan-house nearby.
- There is a nice bar on the terrace, at top floor. I worked on my reports seating there, one morning. But nobody to serve in the bar, which was closed.
Now it comes the worst...
- In my last night I came really late from work, and there were no towels in the bathroom. I called the reception and they said "it was complicated to get towels at that time". Hello ???? I desperatelly needed a shower, and only after insisting a lot the guy agreeded to check on the matter. It took forever until he called me saying he would send me towels, in a way that would mean "I`m doing you a big favor" The messenger came with the towels and it was the same meaning, like not having towels in the bathroom was my fault.

The general impression is that employees were not trained. They don`t like to work there. In fact, many of them kept talking about the transportation costs not being supported by their employer and how they hated the hotel. There were always groups of 2-3 waiters talking, and sometimes big screems and laughs coming from the kitchen. I was having dinner by myself and one of the waiters just stopped by my table, and started doing personal questions, like if I was alone, where I was going to leave, etc. Even with my lack of responses, he did not stop with this. I just rush my dinner to left the place as soon as I could.

Next time, if the company books me this hotel, I`ll refuse it !

I stayed here for one night as I had a flight connection from Rio's international airport the following morning. It was the weekend so I got this hotel at a good price (I reckon much of the hotel's weekday customers are probably business people paying higher prices).

It's located in the Centro district and is only a two minute walk from the metro and about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Santos Dumont (domestic) airport.

Rooms were good and the hotel itself seems brand new or at the very least it has been quite recently renovated. Breakfast was as good as I have had anywhere. The breakfast choice is almost endless. There are quite a few amenities in the hotel (sauna, pool, bars, viewing deck) but I used none of these due to my short stay.

Most visitors to Rio like to stay in the Zona Sul, where the famous beaches are, but if you also fancy a day or two in a downtown location this would be a good option. It's also a good choice if you need to overnight before a flight from either of the city's two airports. (from the nearby Santos Dumont airport you can catch the bus to the International airport)
