“Beautiful Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

Porto da Barra Beach is located in the city of Salvador, Brazil. The water is calm and The heart of Brazil's third-largest city. And in a country with over 7,000 km of east-facing coastline. I like get lots of enjoyment in this beach.

“Beach for relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

We spent the last 1/4 of our vacation on the Beach of Barra de Tijuca. The first 1/4 of our vacation was spent on Ipamena Beach. We travelled in April 2013 which is considered low season. The temp every day was greater than 26 Celcius. We had little rain. If it did rain it was only for a short period. The waves were huge. They would be dangerous for small children. We were told that the waves come in as such during the change of season. It was beautiful to see the sites & hear the sounds of the ocean. Fun to watch the wind surfers & the surf boarders. You would see locals fishing from shore. Only 2/3 of the stands that sold pop/beer/food were open. The sand was finer & cleaner than the sand on Ipamena Beach. The beach had far less people on it which meant far less vendors. Definitely a quieter beach & better beach if you just want to relax. You still have the stone paths for walking along the 18 km of beach. Little shopping close by. Lots of huge malls you can walk to or take a 10 min. taxi ride to. Mostly stores that we have in Canada/US are found in the malls & the prices are very high. Overall in Rio it was hard to find local shops that sold local brands close to the tourist districts. Hint: Yellow Taxi's with the blue stripe are the cheapest. They have set rates.

“Nice beach - 20 kilometres long.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

I go to Barra a lot. I take tourists there to surf and check out the bikini and speedo clad locals. There are many great locations - including Pepes and the reserve area - my favorite - a long stretch with the natural beach flora - the restinga - giving Barra a great alternative to the beaches further away called Recreio, Prainha and Grumari. Worth the trip. Take bus 332 from Copacabana beach - its more than 5 r$, but it is airconditioned :-)

“little reason to go”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

Unless you´re staying in Barra there is little reason to visit the beach. Barra is a long way out of true Rio. There are no toilet/shower facilities as there are at Copa, Ipanema and now Flamengo , and the wandering vendors on the sand are few and far between.Open sea means the water is cleaner, like Ipanema.

“Far from the rest of the city and a little dangerous path during certain hours. Poor public transport.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

The beach was not released for bathing. You should always check if the beach is free to bath due to pollution.
