“Lovely Italian eatery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

From the moment you walk in the door of this lovely open aired eatery you know it's special. Great service, attention to detail and very competitive pricing. Wine prices are great compared to canada.

“Don't think that you are going to eat the real Italian food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

Usually my Brazilian friends like to go to Italian restaurants, but unfortunately the majority of them are not preparing the real Italian food.
Artigiani is one of them, they make some changes to the original receipts and they think that they improving them. I tried some pasta with fish and it was just so, so.
The style of the restaurant is quite classical and the service is good.
Prices are medium- high.

“Beautiful ambiance, creative meal...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

Set along the canal dividing Ipanema and Leblon (although the Metro construction at the moment can be noisy) with outside terraces and intimate dining rooms. It's a bit of Italy in Rio! We had a late Sunday lunch when it had quieted down and the entire meal was memorable. The pastas are homemade and beyond the usual suspects. A paglia e fiena was divine as well as medallions of filet in a Marsala. The potatoes were done with cheese and deep fried - nice! Desserts too were creative. My flourless chocolate cake with a ball of almond ice cream and a chocolate sauce still makes my mouth water. Extensive wine list with grappas and liquers to satisfy anyone. Beware that credit cards are not accepted - at least until you have no other way to pay. I was not warned, did not see anything on the menu but was led to a room with a credit card machine - mostly for foreigners. GO! The decoration is not overdone, lots of baroque mirrors and Italian ceramics. And most of all, not overpriced!

“Worst cheap food ever + food poisoning”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

Went with girlfriend into this recommended "Italian".

If you do not want to drink wine, the drinks' choice is poor and expensive.

But the worst was reserved for the food. Her pasta was black pasta from squid tint - normally a good choice, stuffed with lobster and asparagus.

Mine was regular pasta with aubergines and red sauce.

Hers: they did not know how to cook the asparagus, so they managed to cut it raw and put in the pasta. Imagine you eating cooked pasta with raw vegetables inside...

Mine: cheap food. You know these moments you are in a hurry, it's late, the supermarket is closing? Then you take ANY pasta from the super market and the cheapest ready, pre-cooked tomato sauce? Then you ask your kid to make it for you. It's food just to keep you alive, there's no pleasure in that specially due to the sauce.

The sauce was terrible. Aubergines were cut in small squares. Never saw aubergines cut like that, very gross, no taste, horrible. You have to cut in thin slices OF COURSE.

This restaurant pretends to be Italian, this this cheap, bad food.

Not even cheap... it's expensive and you have to pay in cash. Ridiculous.

To crown this wasted night... my girlfriend had food poisoning and she's suffering. Cannot work, I am abroad and she's suffering due to this terrible restaurant. We had same food for 5 days, only thing different was the pasta, so we are 100% sure.

Avoid this disgusting place at all costs! Grab good pasta and make your own sauce at home, it's very easy to stay WAY above the standards of the establishment.
