“Basic quality hotel, well trained staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

I stayed in Granada Hotel in Rio during the World Cup in June 2014.

The hotel location is good as it's close to a number of historical sights, but not to the beach, it took me approximately 15-20 minutes to get to Copa Cabana by taxi.

The room was ok, clean and comfortable, but still small. Everything in the room worked well, the cleaning was regular. The only thing that bothered me was the noise that I could hear from the outside and from the other rooms.

The breakfast was good, there were a lot of different fruit, dairy, hot & cold dishes.

I really loved the fitness room that was located on the top floor; the view from the roof to the Christ statue was amazing! There is a small pool as well, but I didn't use it.

Wifi in the hotel was free and the speed was sufficient.

The staff of the front desk is really well trained. They were friendly, helpful and welcoming.

To sum it up, I should say that this hotel is a good example of price-quality balance.

Room Tip: avoid the rooms with the construction works view

We have just stayed at the Granada for 3 days as part of a south american tour. This hotel was fine for what we needed. It was modern, clean, decent showers, good breakfasts and friendly staff. It was noisy (but that's Rio for you) and it could do with better air con in the rooms.nice rooftop bar; small (very) pool and a gym. The neighbourhood however is not ok for a family trip (streetwalkers and addicts). But we are a bunch of guys who have been doing these annual trips for 30 years so this is not so much of a problem. Not a place for my family though !

Stayed for a couple of days.was a big mistake. Lots of prostitutes and drugs outside.almost no police presence, they were possibly scared. Internet hardly working, so the staff and the waiters....
Much too expensive for what it (not) offers. Very decrepit, seedy and shabby area. I thought it was closer to avenida rio brnco but no....only the lapa arches with notorious crime rates is close.
One of my worst hotels in brazil.
Would never ever return to this.....
A terrible choice ....a real rip off ! Not exaggerated...
Ahhh....the rooftop and the view were nice ...to be a bit positive lol

The staff at this hotel simply do not care at all about their guests. Not at all. It is also getting quite worn and tatty at the edges with need for a face-lift. It seems to sell it itself as a trendy city centre hotel but it really doesn't make the grade.
Plus points are:
New roof top area with excellent views across the city centre, a small pool, small bar and a gym.
Hotel is located in trendy area with lots of good bars and restaurants and music nearby.
Negative points:
Staff don't care about anything.
Dining room full of uncleared tables every morning at breakfast, nowhere to sit. Staff just shrugged when asked for clean plates and cutlery.
At breakfast hot food is cold. Left in unheated trays.
Room entry cards frequently do not work. They just give you another knackered one that also does not work. Not helpful if your room is on the 12th floor. Up and down you go!
One day stay with no hot water.
Bathrooms very small.
No service on the rooftop bar/gym. So a waste of time really.
Tried to charge us for a phone call we never made.

You can do a lot better than this place.

The hotel itself is ok, the rooms are clean and mine had a view of the "Christ the Redeemer" statue. However, the attitude of the check in clerk, Ivan, was obnoxious to say the least in spite of my family and I taking three rooms on the world cup final night (almost ten times the normal rate!).

On the plus side, the roof terrace was nice and the bartender friendly, but by and large staff weren't particularly friendly.

The location of the hotel is in a pretty dangerous part of Rio as well!

Room Tip: Wifi was really patchy!

This is a nice hotel, recently renovated, with a modern appeal. Rooms are quite big, clean, and comfortable. Bathroom is also really nice (no bathtub), spacious, and clean. Hotel staff is helpful, friendly, and professional. There's not many restaurant options around the hotel, but there's one good almost in front of it. Hotel also has restaurant for a reasonable price. If you walk about a mile or maybe less, there's lots of shopping options at Uruguaiana street. Just ask at front desk how to get there and they'll tell you right away.
