“Location, hospitality, caiphirina!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

My girlfriend and I stayed for four nights and we thoroughly recommend this B&B. Right from Diogio's airport collection and tour back to the B&B and Valerie's tasty welcome caihphirina, we were treated to wonderful family hospitality. It is a historic building with gardens, in a beautiful setting, situated in the rainforest at the foot of Corcovado mountain (with the cog train to Christ the Redeemer at the top passing outside, with historical significance to the building itself). The location is very peaceful and it's hard to believe you are in the middle of a large city, yet the it's not out of the way at all, with Rio's beaches accessible by a quick taxi ride through the tunnel. A delicious fresh breakfast (ahh the fruit) each morning and the only drawback was that we didn't see a macaco...or armadillo or anteater in the garden...maybe next time!

I want to thank Helena for being a good hostess during our 2 night stay in Rio de Janeiro. Helena made us feel welcome to her house and treated us nicely during our stay. I booked my stay online and Helena always gave updates, during the process. I appreciate the way she gave directions to the taxi driver who brought us from the airport to her home. She accomodated all of our needs and even gave us a map. Since its our first time to Brasil, she gave us tips on what to do, where to eat and how to go to the tourist places. She lent me her umbrella since it was cloudy the whole time we stayed there. We stayed at Toucan Room and it's spacious with large cabinets and has a clean toilet. The breakfast exceeded my expectations. The food was delicious and the fresh juice was the best. Her staff may not speak English, but they were all friendly and pleasant to us. My husband and I enjoyed our stay so much in Helena's lovely home.

Room Tip: Don't leave windows open as mosquitoes and other insects will enter the room.

My wife and I stayed here for a couple nights. The hospitality and attention to detail were exceptional. The other guests we met at breakfast and around the house were nice, and talking with them was enjoyable. Staying at the Casa Caminho do Corcovado, you will feel like a special guest in someone's home, rather than an anonymous guest, as you might at one of the large hotels at the beach.

At night, you will feel especially safe and secure in this house due to the nice neighborhood, security personnel in the neighborhood, large dogs patrolling the ground, and security fence.

Be aware that this property is adjacent to a forest, so there may be mosquitoes that find their way into your room at night.

The breakfast in the morning was thoughtfully prepared and another nice thing about staying here.

Room Tip: Bring mosquito repellant if you're prone to getting bites

Helena and her family welcomed us literally with open arms. The house is spotless and well appointed. Breakfast is fantastic. We stayed in the Toucan room with an en suite, which was very comfortable. Toucans and monkeys live in the beautiful gardens. Helena made our stay in Rio very memorable. Thank you!

This B&B is located on the side of Corcovado Mtn. Really lovely setting in a historic home. Hosts Diogo and Helena helped arrange day trips, gave great advice about where to go and how to get there. I felt like I was treated like a family friend. It is not near the beach or the noise, but accessible to them easily. Macaque monkeys come down from the forest and hang around. Other wildlife as well. Very pleasant. A really special place to stay.

I was at Casa Caminho from Dec 28 to Jan 3 with my two children (age 21 and 16). It was our first visit to Brazil and I was a little worried even if I'm kind of an experienced traveler.

I must admit that my experience with Helena, Valeria and Diogo at Casa Caminho went far beyond my best expectations and was one of my best traveling experiences: at Casa Caminho, you can feel that hosting tourists is not just a job; it is a passion and a pleasure.

Casa Caminho is located in a heavenly place, the Tijuca park reserve, and it is a charming 20th century villa, very well kept. Our room has a breathtaking view over the garden, the park and the Christ statue at the top of the Corcovado. Everything was sparkling clean and the breakfast was a gourmet experience for the quality (and the quantity) of food that Helena presented to us every morning.

Diogo, who is a tourist guide, took us around Rio, showing us both the known and the hidden treasures of this wonderful city. He gave us very useful hints about the Reveillon at Copacabana on New Year’s Eve, how to go, where to stay, etc. and, together with Helena and Valeria, he gave us all kind of suggestions to get the best from our stay (how to reach different places by public transportation –bus stop is less than 5 minutes on foot, metro tickets for the Reveillon, best restaurants in town, etc).

We always felt very safe in Rio and Cosme Velho, the area where Casa Caminho is, is a very nice and quiet neighborhood. From there, it takes about 25 minutes by bus to reach Ipanema, Copacabana or Leblon. As indicated in their web site, because it is located on a little hill, it is not recommended for people with limited mobility.

Our flight arrived late at night but Diogo was waiting for us at the airport on arrival. He spoke good English and pointed out places of interest en route to the hotel. Helena welcomed us with one of her famous caipirinhas. We stayed in the bungalow which I would describe as rustic and pretty basic. Shortly after entering, I heard a scream from the shower room when my girlfriend discovered she had a cockroach as a guest. The breakfast was enjoyable but the fruit on the table attracted lots of fruit flies. Any food left over is left on a table outside for the monkeys and we were delighted to see several of them, including baby ones visit one day for a feast.
