“Hidden gem in Rio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

What a wonderful B&B away from the noisy Copacabana e Ipanema beaches. This place has everything a big chain hotel in Rio can offer but the rooms are much bigger and it's less than 5 minutes taxi ride from the bohemian district of Lapa. Providing nothing has changed since my stay in Jan 2010, I highly recommend Um Meia Tres. The owners Bill and Sue are very hospitable and will do everything they can to make your stay memorable!

Room and common areas were clean and nicely decorated. The pool is a nice place to relax and see the city. Staff was pleasant, if not delightful. Would recommend with the following notes. The breakfast is good, but pretty light. There is a lot of stairs at the B&B and it is on the top of a big hill, so if you are out of shape or have difficulty with activity this may not be the place for you.

Travelled to Brazil for the Confederations Cup. First stop was Rio. Blown away by finally making the Maracana at last and blown away by Um Meia Tres as well. Bill and Sue were fantastic hosts. Room was excellent as was the breakfast. Monkeys on the balcony enhanced our mornings. View is superb. Lovely walk down to Gloria metro. Excellent (though pricey) restaurant just a minute away across the road. Highly recommended.

Chose this marvellous bed and breakfast (pousada) on the basis of other traveller's recommendations and their website. Can only reinforce everything they say : perfect location in a in a beautiful residential area, rooms with terrace with a view to the bay and Rio , lovely common areas and more than anything, the most helpful and friendly hosts, Bill and Sue are exceptional., Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The ones with terraces are better, but the others are also nice and bigger. There are common terrac...

What more could you ask for! We really enjoyed our stay at Um Meia Tres. Santa Teresa is so much more fun than the rather bland Copacabana and Ipanema. Really good restaurants close by, short walk to the bus, bit longer to the metro but all downhill (get a taxi back as the hills are very steep!) Near to Lapa, Samba street parties and the rain forest is just behind the B&B. Just feels like the real Rio. Nothing is too much trouble for Bill and Sue.

I've just come on here to enthuse and have seen a review by Ian A, he was there whilke I was and endorse his words entirely.

Bill and Sue give great recomendations, the room has fantastic reviews, Santa Teresa is a short walk to some great bars.

I don't need toi say any more, the rest of the great reviews tell you the story.

Thanks Bill and Sue for looking after me.

What a great place to stay! My wife and I stayed at Um Meia Tres and we felt welcome from start to finish. Very good location within Santa Teresa and is a 5 minute walk from the bars and shops. Our bedroom was clean, tidy and had amazing views of the city!

Bill and Sue are excellent hosts and have great knowledge of Rio so don't be afraid to pick their brains about where to go and how to get there! However, be afraid of Bill's cocktails, they are lethal (in a good way)...
