We had a wonderful stay at Casa Amarelo, the hotel is beautifully decorated and set in a peaceful and lush surroundings. Staff were friendly and helpful, spending time to help us decide what to do in Rio and making sure we had everything we needed. The breakfast was also delicious! Santa Teresa is a bit further away from the beaches and main attractions of Rio, but it's worth the journey it as the area is so pretty and fascinating and you are also close to the nightlife of Lapa and the centre of town. Highly recommended!

This is a very charming small hotel in the hills of Santa Teresa. Converted from an old house, it feels like you are staying with friends compared to the busy high rise hotels of Ipanema and Copacabana. The staff are very friendly and helpful, even with arranging local tours. The breakfasts were wonderful, and the pool, while small, was a welcome and relatively private retreat in the garden. In-house WiFi and a desktop computer in the living room were helpful. Close proximity to all the night-life in Lapa. The rooms were spacious, clean, and individually unique, and the whole house has lots of character. Downsides are that many taxi drivers don't want to go there, there are limited food options close to the hotel, and the old elevator that takes you up from the street can have problems.

We remind that our elevator have been completely modernised and it is very safe, though it is manual and some guests do forget to close the door when leaving.

We thank you once again for your kind words.

This is a large house, over 100 years old, that has been turned into a hotel with a/c in the bedrooms and nestled amongst lots of greenery. The entry is disappointing as one is buzzed into a long white claustraphobic corridor with no indication that the dorr at the end is an elevator into the house. However, once there it is full of charm and has the friendliest most helpful staff imaginable that speak several languages between them.

We felt really at home in casa Amarelo. We liked the decoration (warm, elegant and practical at the same tune). The staff are simply delightful. The only drawback we had was the fact that, being under the sitting room, we would hear the noise of other guess having their breakfast in the morning.
The location in Santa Teresa is really nice and gives you an unusual picture of Rio

Regarding questions concerning the physical structure of the house, we would like to remind that it is an old house from 1904 which became part of the historical and cultural heritage. Therefore it is sometimes difficult to do structural intervention.

Thank you once again.

We visited during our honeymoon and had the small hotel to ourselves. Hotel is beautiful and service excellent, but only the owner speaks English (and French). Nice breakfast, and a charming staff nonetheless.
The location just outside Lapa (party district) in the hills of Santa Theresa is perfect for either a wild night out in Lapa, or a quiet dinner at a trendy and exciting restaurant in the hills, both of which are just a 10 minutes walk away.
Communication wise its OK, though some taxis will refuse if you are far away since you have to move through Lapa, and that takes too much time for them, but walking from the arcs will be fine. In the daytime, walking to the metro works.
Pool was fine, view was stunning, interior made us feel like noblemen from the 17th century with modern day comforts.
I would recommend this hotel to all.
5 stars despite of some noise due to old house, lacking internet connection and poor English knowledge.

Room Tip: Room under the music room is very nice, but you can hear everything from the music room...
