“Best meal we had in South America”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2011

To be honest, most of the Copacabana came as a bit of a disappointment to us. It is littered with tacky tourist restaurants offering bland, unimaginative food at dizzy prices (EUR 30 for pasta with prawns, for example).

This restaurant is entirely different. The decor is modern and appealing and the waiting staff are attentive (sometimes a little too much so, especially when the restaurant is quiet). On arrival, we were greeted by the manager, who was extremely helpful and friendly and spoke impeccable English.

Our meal didn't disappoint. We were brought a selection of antipasti with bread before being served our mains. I had slices of pork loin with spicy sausage, black beans and sauteed cabbage cut into tiny ribbons, while my husband enjoyed deliciously spiced fish with cassava mash and ribbons. The flavours were perfectly balanced and the components of both dishes worked very well together. We enjoyed an excellent white wine and ordered the coconut ice-cream for dessert, which was truly incredible.

The restaurant isn't cheap, but it's no more expensive than any of the very average restaurants nearby. After 2 weeks of generally very bland, repetitive food in South America, this was a real taste explosion. Highly recommended!

Great steak. Lots of local foods. First time I've ever had truly fresh hearts of palm and I'm addicted!

“Average restaurant, a tad overpriced/touristy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011

Not bad if you want to taste traditional Brazilian food but over priced. Two cocktail and two mains were around 90 reils. One could have eaten at a cheaper and posher restaurant in Leblon/Ipanema for the same price!

“Good traditional feijoada”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2011

This is a small, somewhat simple place with wooden, but the feijoada was very good, and one could choose from the 8 or so types of meat that were included. Total for the dish and all its many accompaniments was about $30. The service was friendly. I thought it was good value considering how expensive Brazil is.
