The Galani Restaurant sits 23 floors up overlooking the legendary beach at Ipanema with spectacular views. Chef Willans introduced his new menu only days ago and we had been invited to taste and comment by the charming hotel Guest Experience Coordinator, Ximena Salaverria.
We could not fault the location. The service was patchy with half (the most important part) of my excellent first course being 5 minutes late. Never the less the Cacarola de Foie Gras con frutas secas (Foie Gras casserole with dry fruits and Tapioca Crepe stuffed with vanilla infused pear) was excellent and different. The Tutu com Torresma de Ontem, the dish of the singer Vinicius de Morais was less so. A complicated piece of pork (basically rolled belly) worked less well for me.
My wife ate more simply than I! She chose a very nice Tian of cod for a starter and then Sea Bream. Both were excellent.
Water was bottled, ice was quickly brought and replaced. Bread was good.
For the wine I ordered the Brazilian red Cabernet Sauvignon from the South and close to the Argentinian border. I had never tasted a wine from Brazil and was pleasantly surprised with the Dal Pizzol.
Chef Willans was keen get comments from his customers and came from the kitchen to talk about the menu which is always good as feedback is rarely given unless asked for. He is ambitious for his restaurant and deserves supporting. So go and see for yourselves and enjoy both food and view.
Not cheap at around Real 400 but you are paying for talent and view. Should I find myself again in Ipanema then I will return to both Restaurant and Hotel, Caesar Park.
