“Fascinating museum estate; Versailles without the bling”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

The Imperial Museum is dedicated to the holiday visits of the Imperial Family to Petropolis, and the museum is set out as "originally lived", with the furniture and art laid out in each room with helpful descriptions of what each room was used for and stories about the family members and their large and small doings. You wear slippers to shuffle about the house from room to room, and we found it to be extremely entertaining, without the crowds or dodging photos of Versailles. The museum has a lovely little cafe on the grounds where we enjoyed a local beer looking up at the main museum mansion. Great spot.

“Facing Brazilian Imperial History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

As Petrópolis was the Summer capital for the Brazilian Court, the Royal Family built their palace in this lovely mountain town. The Palace now houses the Imperial Museum. A real jewel among Brazilian museums. Very well kept, with a collection of more than 300.000 itens, this Museum tells the history of Brazilian monarchy and, specially, of the Second Empire. Don't dare to miss this opportunity to visit our History. The throne room, with the Royal Crown and Robe, is awesome! Last, but not least, the Museum is famous for its slippers: they certainly help protecting the beautiful wooden and marbled floors. Childrem are welcome. Enjoy!

“Very interesting, but small.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Very interesting museum - definitely a must see. It is very small however, so plan on no more than an hour or so to get through the whole thing. You also need to put little slippers over your feet to walk around - so you more slide around the museum like you are on skates. So don´t wear heels when you go.

“One of the most beautiful museum of the World!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful museums of the world, has enormous importance not only for Brazil but also for all of Latin America, Petrópolis city was the headquarters of the imperial Portuguese court in the Napoleonic era, when they escaped by a whisker from Napoleon's troop. Just downtown, very well organized, and you can enjoy a nightly spectacle of dancing waters showing a little of Brasilian history. It's a must see museum.
