“The best hotel of our 31 day holiday in South America”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2011

Our minibus transfer twisted and turned along narrow lanes and we wondered what sort of hotel we were going to especially when it stopped outside what looked like a garage door!
HOWEVER, once we were inside it was a lovely old building that had been tastefully converted. What we had not appreciated is that the hotel is in the 'Historic Centre' which does not allow any traffic in the cobbled streets. Hence the circuitous route around the Historic Centre to the back entrance of the hotel. During our tour of South America we stayed at some nice hotels (Sheraton, Hilton, etc) but this little 'rustic' hotel beat them all. The breakfast buffet was not huge but it was the best - the homemade yoghurt (with a bit of honey) was superb. Lovely scrambled eggs and crispy bacon as well.
The Historic Centre is lovely to just wander around. A boat trip around the Bay is also very good.

Room Tip: Paraty Tours have a daily minibus transfer to/from Rio (hotel or airport). Our room was across the...

Pousada do Ouro is a relaxing hotel with great hotel staff. It is a fascinating hotel with many unique rooms, a great hotel bar area for lounging and chatting, and honest knowledge of the local Paraty restaurants and activities. We had a great time at Pousada do Ouro.

We (couple in late 20s) loved our stay at the Pousada do Ouro. Hosts were friendly and excellent English. Room was clean, small, with great character. Seems pretty quite and a little away from the bustle, just few blocks walk. The pool, pool table, and bar where a great place to unwind. We never saw any other guests there (October). From our hotel you can rent a boat nearby, eat at great restaurants, and shop tons of tiny treasure stores. We rented motor bikes one day and the hotel let us park them inside their grounds. I highly recommend this Paraty treasure. (we stayed in a room across the street and up one floor...can't remember the room number)

I stayed here in January with one of my friends and we both loved this charming pousada! the rooms were spacious, the location right in the historic center, walking distance to both the bus station and the water (the latter is 2 blocks away, definitely recommend taking one of the boat tours--the hotel will book it for you). The price was reasonable and we were very pleased with the service--the staff all spoke English and were very helpful with booking taxis, trips, and making restaurant recommendations. We also got massages at the hotel which were also a good value. The hotel also has a small pool which is nice to lie by since the beach is a bit of a walk away. Also, we loved the breakfast buffet in the mornings! Overall a great experience, the one thing to note is that some of the rooms are located across the street from the main building/reception, so you have to tap on the window and get the person working at the desk to buzz you in.

We rated the hotel highly with an attractive building in a good location and excellent service. An added attraction was the swimming pool in lovely gardens. The reception rooms and bar were also beautifully furnished. We had a suite on the first floor which consisted of a lovely large room, dressing area and attractive bathroom facing away from the pedestrian only street. The staff could could not have been more helpful and were English speaking on reception. Another attraction was the courtyard in which to park our car - a rarity in the old town. Paraty is a wonderful place for a break with the ability to walk around the lovely town, visit nearby beaches by car or boat or lie by the pool. The hotel does not have its own restaurant but there are plenty in the town to try out.

.

Room Tip: Room 21 is an attractive quiet room facing away from the road which is pedestrianised.

My wife and I stayed in this beautiful colonial pousada on the 18th of August 2011 - the setting is perfect - colonial style and tropical gardens, especially around the pool area, which allows for afternoon drinks in a wonderful, elegant yet cosy and relaxed environment. It is difficult to imagine the extent of the pousada from the street - you really have to go into the pousada to appreciate and admire the little paradise that is inside! Rooms are excellent at all 3 levels. We checked out many pousadas in Paraty and we think that the Pousada de Ouro and Pousada da Marquesa are the best - they used to both belong to the same owner, so no surprises there in the sense that their styles are similar. I do however have a soft sport regarding the Poudasa do Ouro swimming pool and garden area - the caipirinhas we had in that setting tested so much better! Whenever we go back to Paraty we will certainly go back to this pousada. Well done to the owner and to the delightful team that run this little piece of heaven in the historical centre of Paraty.
