“Easy access to rio, good value.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of a 3 month backpacking trip. Finally we had sheets clean enough to sleep on and a lovely big apartment, 2 balconies and an open plan kitchen, dining and living area to relax in. Was easy enough to get to rio using the ferry, we'd already spent 3 full days in rio at a hostel, so were happy to chill out away from it all. Not great if you want to be at the heart of the action.
Only criticisms were yhat the staff knocked every morning without fail at 8.30am asking for laundry, the kitchen had nothing to cook with (saucepans etc) and the shower water was warmat best. Overall, great stay, but had we not have been knackered from travelling, we would have preferred to be staying in ipanema or copacabana.

I stayed here years ago when it was a Novotel. It then closed and was reopened. The location is excellent the arquitecture very modern. There it all stops. The water in the shower is barely warm, the amenities are not good. The restaurant menu very limited. The decoration of the rooms is not at all warm nor enticing. For the price it was OK but you have to have a very compelling reason to go to Niteroi and this hotel is not that reason. There was a street party close to the hotel on one night which finished at 03:20 thus very little sleep

The hotel has a good location for people that likes calm scenario. A beautiful view of Rio de Janeiro. I have stayed in a room with 1 bedroom, 1 living room and kitchen. One varanda to appreciate the view. The breakfast is in the average and staff is friendly. The freash hot cheese bread is the must.
I went with all family (2 adults and 3 children).
There is a tenis court and is close to Guanabara bay sidewalk.
A car rental, friends to come/go or taxi is required.
I should say that the cost versus benefit is very good.

Room Tip: Of course the stay is best if you need to stay in Niteroi.

The management were very helpful and spoke reasonable English for me who spoke no Portuguese.
There was no hot water for showers which was what I needed after a 30 hour flight.
Went down to the restaurant for dinner and the staff were just sitting around no dinner was available so I ordered off room service to be told to call reception because no one spoke English even though he told me this in English????? Breakfast was good.
The view is probably the best thing going for the hotel - rooms are what you expect for the price.
The ride from the airport to the hotel is an experience if you are not use to seeing a country where the infrastructure is not in place.
I meet a few locals of Rio at the business meeting I attended who said the local joke in regards to Niteroi is that the best thing about Niteroi is the view. How true that statement is.

Room Tip: No hot water.

I have been at the hotel now for a week, in that time I have moved rooms once and been offered another room as well but it was not any better, the place is falling apart, today is the third day without any television, when you ask when it will be fixed they just say they have contacted the company, there is little if any hot water in the shower, if you turn on the hot tap at any real pressure it just runs cold, the maintenance guy (I use the term loosely) came to fix it, he turned it down to a dribble and said it was fixed, what it needs is new thermastatically controled valves, if he was real maintenance he would know that,
Most of the remotes dont work and the AC is not up to much, good job it's not summer, there is no bar, even the lunch is resturant or room service, I tried room service one lunch but never again, I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, 45 minutes later I had to leave for work and still no sandwich, most of the reception staff are not much help, I also have to get the card key reset every day as it won't work, good job I am only on the 3rd floor, oh by the way if there is a power outage like there was on Monday there is no emergency lighting in the room.

Room Tip: Try a different Hotel

The management of the hotel is non-existent. Everything that depends on people is a fiasco, starting from the check-in ("sorry yes realise this has already taken over 20 minutes, but we can see your booking on the central system on THAT pc but can't get it on the hotel system on THIS pc, you see....") through the catastrophic restaurant / breakfast service (all european food finished in first 20 minutes of breakfast, then choice is between 10 different VERY sweet cakes) which seems to be outsourced to a lady living in the Brazilian 80s, not realising that catering in Brazil has gone cosmopolitan a LONG time ago. Broken aircon units and door locks are all attended to by the same bored-looking individual with one pair of pliers and no clue...and remain broken.
But hey IF you happen to be staying on the Niteroi side of the bay (which is rare if on business or doing real tourism round Rio), you simply cannot match the view, you see. That is the catch. So we keep returning...! And because of deteriorating connections to Rio (been some monkey business taking fast ferry operators out of business) the price is low making it good value for money.
The rooms are great size with full-feature fridge, hob etc making it a great allround base from which to operate on a longer stay (and you can live independent from the unbelievable thing that calls itself a restaurant!)

Room Tip: Be sure to insist on a room facing the Sugarloaf, as the side facing the bridge gets the music from...
