Having lived in Brasil and travelled throughout this wonderful country I have been accustomed to friendly Brazilians and nice clean pousadas. Well, that is until a group of my friends stayed at the Pousada Tropicana. To begin, the beds are as old as the pousada, and I warn you to bring a nose-plug if you plan on sleeping. Upon complaining to the staff and management we were told "you know this is a pousada and not a five-star hotel. Certainly no one was expecting a five-star hotel, but kindess and cleanliness can be found at almost any pousada. Evidently the French management has never heard the well-known phrase "the customer is always right". I will never visit this dive again, however, next door the Aqua Viva is very nice.

Yes, we are not a five star hotel. Pousada Tropicana is proud of being comfortably inside a State Park where tourism is made for those who enjoy nature. Those who admire nature and natural beauty will have fun and feel happy as opposed to folks who enjoy more of the comfort provided by tourism within an urban setting.
As far as a group composed of 20 tourists, whose criticism from one of them appears on this site, let me clarify the situation:
The problem began as soon as the group arrived. I reserved three extra bedrooms beyond what the group had requested and did not ask for a deposit for such rooms. Keep in mind that it was high season; therefore reserving extra rooms without a deposit is not usually done. Upon arrival, some of the folks became disappointed, because there was no king size beds in the rooms and decided not to stay at the pousada. In fact, these folks simply left and did not care to stop by our reception desk to inform of their wish to cancel as they went to another pousada. At that point, I explained to Mr. “ Cracka” that I would have to charge them at least for one night of the three nights reserved for the group, since we were during high season and the rooms would stay empty due to their cancellation. Mr. “ Cracka” did not accept the charges, and became very nervous and was extremely rude with my team.
The saying that the client is always right is always conveniently used by not well mannered clients. Our team is well known for being polite and attentive to client’s needs and is composed of a majority of local folks. We do not appreciate people who instead of having fun, come to a place considered a paradise to dump their negative energies as if they were kings of the world onto employees who are simple and cordial.
As far as those who are reading this message, we would like to invite you all for a caipirinha drink at our beach front restaurant and come up with your own conclusions about who is right about this unfortunate incident inside the Pousada Tropicana. Ilha Grande is still a paradise and deserves your visit.
Please come with open hearts and with good energies to experience the island. My Brazilian team and I, the "French manager", are still part of a community who enjoys peace and love rather than war. We are pleased to receive Americans who think like us.

My friends and I arrived to check in only to find that the hotel wanted our party (20 people) to room with more than two per room. So basically, they couldn't figure out that when said we had 20 people and needed 10 rooms, married couples didn't want to be split up into rooms of three.

We ended up having to find other rooms next door (that hotel was awesome from what I was told by my friends). Then there was the issue of the beds. They were DISGUSTING!!! I mean they smelled like things that would not be appropriate for me to write on a public site.

The french manager did not help matters. He threatened to not allow us to retrieve our valuables which we put in the safe when we had to leave early in the morning to catch the one ferry off the island because he said we came to early. He was very upset that we implied that his beds were unsanitary.

I have traveled all over the world, in fact 14 countries just in the last year, and this was the worst experience I've ever had. It might be cheap, but you are truly getting what you pay for.

I would like to inform that this review is made by the same group of Cracka’s review on july 05

I would like to inform the reader that when we make group reservations every aspect of the reservation is well defined. One of them is to inform the person responsible for making the booking for the group that each room has a different price based on the room configuration, such as double, triple or quadruple rooms.

In regards to the group in question, the person responsible was well informed of the configurations of the rooms and the different prices based upon it. As far as the beds itself, the problem is that the group is saying they wanted king size beds and that our website advertise it this way. This is actually not true.

As far as the episode involving the pousada´s safe, all of our clients are informed of our reception hours (8:30 am until 10:00 pm) and for guests to check-out the night before. This is because there is only one ferry leaving in the morning and we make everything possible to avoid any delay for our guests choosing to catch the ferry. Even though the whole group was informed, they went to the reception desk to check out and asked one of our kitchen employees, preparing the other guests breakfast, to wake up the “French manager” at 6:30 am. We believe this request was made purposely and they had bad intentions behind it.

Pousada Tropicana is a simple and rustic place with a great beachfront restaurant and would like to invite everyone to come and visit our installations.

Pousada Tropicana is one of the best located in Abrao Village, its between the two piers and surrounded by other pousads and nice little resturants and shops. I would not consider a plus being in front of the beach because its not a nice beach at all compared to the beautiful isolated beaches far from Abrao.

This pousada needs some attention from its owner, grounds are not mantained and walls need painting.

Rooms are basic, big, well ventilated and with a/c, the baths are nice and clean. Only problem I found were ALL its beds and matresses, I could not get one night of comfortable sleep while there.

The restaurant in the hotel is good compared to the standard of the island, basic French cousine.
