“Horrible!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2009

My husband and I stayed at Sitio do Lobo for our honeymoon and we couldn't have been more let down. The rooms were small and uncomfortable but the larger problem was the filth and stench of sewage. The owner was rude and treated his employees with disrespect which was uncomfortable and unsettling to watch. You're nickel-and-dimed for everything including an enormous boat fee if you want to leave the "resort" - which you will since there's NOTHING around the place and little to do. Meals are very simply - nothing great and portions are quite small for the number of people dining. Everything about this place was disappointing!

I was there a while ago but after reading the other comments I must add mine.

The owners only care about money!!!!!!!!! The service was terrible, the staff not interested, don`t go unless you have to.

Sitio do Lobo is not what we expected at all. If you are in the mood for a bed and breakfast feel this could be your place. Dinner was included and it was served buffet style and you had no say in what you ate. You are very isolated no town to walk to and the water taxi ride can get expensive. The accomodations were not that nice, the place needs an update.

I've been quite a few times to Sitio do Lobo, and all I can say is that it's a stunning place, that makes you feel instantly relaxed. This is a small pousada, totally secluded, that can only be reached by boat, and the setting is absolutely gorgeous. Every time I come here I can't help but think how come a place like this exists only two hours away from crazy Rio de Janeiro. Ilha Grande is an island that once housed a penitentiary, and maybe that is why the place is still almost intact.
The rooms are tastefully decorated but they don't have TVs, internet and not even telephones. The food is typical brazilian food, and nothing more than that. So don't come here expecting that kind of service because you won't find it. This is a place for nature lovers. The scenery on this island is hard to describe. I guess you have to be really grumpy to be there and not have a good time.

Well over priced and isolated.

we don't mind paying for comfort and an enjoyable experience. This is neither.

We stayed at Sitio do Lobo for 4 days at the end of our holiday in Brazil. We had read some excellent reviews of the pousada but had also seen the less than flattering recent reviews on Trip Advisor so we arrived with some trepidation. We were met on the jetty by Juca who runs the pousada on behalf of his family. He is a genial host and did his utmost to ensure our stay was enjoyable. We were joined by a French couple who arrived from Rio by helicopter, as well as a honeymoon couple, so for the first few days the pousada was not full and it had the air of a country house party. Everyone gathered for drinks before dinner and then had separate tables overlooking the water for dinner. The food was excellent and plentiful, washed down with some good Chilean wine. The first day we shared a boat with the French couple to visit a simply staggeringingly beautiful beach - Lopes Mendes The colour of the sea and the fineness of the white sand was superb - an unforgettable experience. Our second day was spent in Abraao which we reached by boat and our third day was spent kayaking along the coast to a couple of almost deserted beaches. The weather during our visit was excellent but I can imagine that during bad weather it would be difficult to stay occupied at Sitio do Lobo. Our rooms were small but well decorated, the staff are friendly and the situation of the pousada is superb, looking out to sea towards the mainland. We enjoyed our visit very much.

We spent a few days here before Christmas in 2006. We had a cute little room overlooking the ocean. The view was amazing - but the mosquitos were horendous. The room was mostly open, and there were no screens on the windows. We had to close all the doors and windows and roast at night - as 2 of the nights we were there, there was only partial electiricy, not enough to run the ac. The room had some issues, but was romantic in a rustic way. The maid did however steal my soap.

The grounds are nice for hiding from the sun, but don't plan on any sunbathing. There are no lounge chairs anywhere, and not many tiny towels. If you want to be in the sun, you have to swim, sit on the wood dock, or try to lay out on the buggy grass. Not relaxing.

The resort is totally isolated, so we were a bit disaponted with the food offerings as there are no alternatives. Nothing about the food is gourmet, and some of the offerings were a bit odd and maybe a little scary. A few nights there was not enough food for everyone, and the kitchen did not seem prepared to do anything about it.

The only 2 options to leave the resort are the owner's speed boat and the kyaks they offer. One day we were taken to a beach on the other side of the island. The driver would not pull into the dock, so we had to jump from the boat and swim in, as such, we were unable to bring any clothing or money with us. We had only our shoes and 2 bottles of water. The driver promised us to come back in 1 hour. We were left on that beach for 4+ hours. The sun was getting lower in the sky and a huge storm was aproaching and we thougth we would be left there. We were trying to negotiate a trip home on another boat - which would have been quite difficult as we had no money. Finally the driver returned to pick us up and said he was busy doing other things and coudln't make it back. We were left exposed for 4 hours and they didn't really care. Other guest had similar problems return from boat trips.

The next day we tried the kyaks and they gave my husband one with a hole in it. By the time we got back, his was half under water and didn't make it to the dock. THey stood on the dock and laughed. We were lucky to make it back at all.

The owners were absent for our entire visit. The poor manager tried to keep up with everyone's requests, but there were a lot of unhappy visitors.

In short, i'm glad that we stayed here at the beginning of our trip and not the end, as it would have been a big let down compared to all of the other places that we stayed in Brazil. Do more research, find better value for your money somewhere else.
