“Unforgettable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014

don t understand other guests when say "fantastic!" and do not give 5 stars ..if u are not happy and overwelmed here then you are the kind of person that is trying to find the little "buts" anywhere. Honestly, this place has something magic. The premises are top and even if you are literally in the middle of the jungle, you have all the comforts and 5 stars treatments and services. Nelson and Chris are doing an amazing job, putting all their passion and love in what they do and taking care of all the details during your stay. Paul and the ladies in the kitchen are simply amazing, nourishing our stomachs not only with incredible food but with a lot of smiles and love. The kayak rides toward Blue Lagoon and other close beaches and the local and typical boat that take you in and out (sadly) Ilha Grande make this vacation unforgettable for us. Thanks again to all the staff!

Chris and Nelson were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome and safe at their beautifully located pousada, which is both secluded and calm.

Nature surrounds the pousada and this is really one of the most attractive features of the place, and coming from Norway, we were absolutely fascinated by the exotic location, and really enjoyed being totally secluded - with no roads, no cars and no online access.

If reading books, swimming in the sea and listening (and observing) to the exotic wildlife isn't enough, there are plenty opportunities for different types of activities like kayaking and boat life as well as hiking.

Breakfast and dinner were both really nice, and was served at a wonderful deck overlooking the sea.

Our room was somewhat basic (ceiling fan, no air con), but was both clean and inviting, keeping in line with the peaceful and natural atmosphere of the pousada.

We really loved our stay here, and left the island feeling relaxed and well rested. We definitely hope to come back one day!

The new managers are very helpful and friendly and do their very best to accommodate your every requests. From the very beginning we were equipped with very accurate instructions about how, when and where to arrive to the island.

POUSADA: the resort is located in a perfect spot with no other facilities nearby. This gives a peaceful harmony to the overall experience. All of the rooms are really nice and well taken care of. They also have a massive yoga room for those into stretching, exercising or meditating. There are also some weights for those in need for muscle upgrading. Coming from a Finnish background the sauna didn't work as it traditionally should but its a nice addition. They also have a pool and a yacuzzi but the water wasn't changed daily so the beach was more appealing.

FOOD: Breakfast and dinner was served every day on the beautiful deck under the sky, facing a beautiful view of the ocean. Food: btw. amazing. (dinner 3 course fixed menu). After reading a few of the earlier comments, they have obviously upgraded the food quality. Note, that lunch and drinks are not included.

TO DO: there are a lot of things to do on the island. The Pousada gives you a lot of possibilities to explore the surroundings; kayaking, snorkeling and hiking routes. The Pousada also arranges daily chargeable trips to the nearby beaches and other spots, for example the Green Lagoon and one of the most beautiful beaches in the world; Lopes Mendes!

We were really pleased with the overall experience and recommend this small piece of paradise to all people and especially for those looking for a peaceful place to relax. We will definitely visit this Pousada again!

The pousada has a terrific location very close to the blue lagoon - you can rent kayaks and go there on your own in 10 minutes. It is really worth exploring the islands and waters surrounding this beautiful place. There are two wonderful beaches in the area, just minutes away if you go kayaking.

New friendly owners from Argentina/Uruguay make sure you have a lovely stay - nice breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening included in your stay. The food served for dinner could be more extensive and tasty, but I am sure that will be taken care of eventually. It is a pleasure to have the dinner served on the vast deck of the main building by the sea at sunset.

The really comfortable unit we stayed in had wonderful views over the sea surrounding Ilha Grande´s east coast. Unfortunately the water was not clear due to algal bloom, which meant it was pointless to go snorkeling. Found out there was no yoga class to take, which was somewhat disappointing. If a new instructor was hired the wonderful yoga space would for sure be used by many guests - the space itself just amazing.

Next time on Ilha Grande we hope to enjoy crystal clear water, which would make the trip there even better. Overall a wonderful stay at this beautiful pousada.

a nice resort, overall we had a very nice stay. the staff is very kind and the do their best to accommodate every request. maybe slightly overpriced, especially for the quality of the food and the not always reliable transportation to and from the lodge. anyway we had a very nice holiday and we can't complain at all.

We arrived in Ilha Grande after a few days in Paraty. We got picked up from the port without too much difficulty and taken over to the Pousada. We were greeted with a caipirinha by the very welcoming staff which was great given the soaring temperatures. The rooms were quite simple but clean with an 'eco' feel. Our room had a balcony overlooking the ocean with a hammock which could fit the 2 of us - great way to unwind and clear your mind. I simply could not fault the staff, they bent over backwards to help out, particularly Franco, he even emailed us a huge list of recommended things to do in Rio when we'd left. We actually coincided with Christmas so the pousada team put on a huge Christmas feast and we shared some lovely wine with our new-found pousada friends.
The best thing about the Pousada was its isolation, you truly feel relaxed as there is no wifi, phone etc so you can really switch off. We did a number of the walks, indeed invented our own route through the jungle which the guys at the pousada said they rarely do, but we were feeling adventurous! Just a short half hour walk will find you on a beautiful deserted beach. Highly recommend swimming round to the next door beach.

As an avid trip advisor user I was researching this place before we booked and couldn't find many reviews so we took a bit of a punt, but the place didn't fail us. We considered Abrao, but when we visited, we quickly realised we'd made the right decision. Abrao is packed with boat loads of tourists who come over from the mainland, and the water & beach was dirty. Highly recommend the secluded Estrela Da Ilha - you won't regret it.

Room Tip: We stayed in a standard room with no aircon, but The breeze was enough to keep us cool.

We were really excited about visiting this eco-lodge. The reviews seemed excellent and Sergio in their booking office was incredibly helpful. From the photos it looked like there was a great yoga studio, private beach and hammocks to relax in and read a book. Unfortunately it really didn't live up to our expectations. The place felt a little bit unloved. The beach was strewn with flotsam and quite a lot of black sand and the sea didn't seem very clean. The pool was so cloudy that you couldn't see your feet if you were brave enough to get in it. Our room was very cramped and the bathroom had a leak of yellow liquid coming down the wall. We were greeted by one of the day managers who was a little abrupt and as she didn't speak much English we weren't able to find out about the facilities or local activities, neither was there much information in English available to us. Consequently we felt a little bit trapped! They had kayaks for rent so we spent the next day going around the bay but found it hard to find out any information on the best places to go. There were hikes you could do from the hotel inland but as I'm not a confident hiker that wasn't for me. There was no wi-fi which other people might think is a good thing!

On the plus side the food was very tasty and felt quite healthy. Franco also makes a mean caipirinha. But on the whole we were really disappointed and left a day early. If you're going to visit Ilha Grande I think it's much better to be in the main town of Abrao from where you can organise trips around the rest of the island. There's a really lovely Pousada on the beach called Manaca which was much cheaper and more comfortable with a great restaurant next door.
