We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights at the end of January. First impressions are not outstanding as Reception is in a rather bland area whiuch looks like whitewashed breeze blocks. Staff are helpful and pleasant and speak a smattering of English. The standard room was spotless if a little basic - plenty of room, large balcony, fridge and safe. There was an excellent bathroom with a separate wash basin/dressing area. One complaint was the noisy air con unit which was highly effective but kept us awake half the night even on the lowest setting. The rooms also have VERY thin walls - every conversation could be heard next door, you could even hear the toilet seat being put down/lifted!!
Having the word beach in the name is stretching it a bit. You can barely see the beach which is down the hill and round a corner. If you book a seaview room you may be able to see it in the distance but don't expect a stunning view across the beach and sea! Anyway the beach is very narrow. It is covered in parasols that touch each other and you would be lucky to put your beach towel down on it. We spent the days by the pool area which is nice. They provide beach towels but are a bit stingy in that you can only have one for free - anymore you have to pay for . We stayed on the top 5th floor reached by several steps or a quaint but effective "funicular" railway. I should think any floor lower than the 4th would be noisy as the hotel overlooks a busy road on a hill of cobblestones. Breakfast was good with a reasonable joice as were the bar snacks. We ate out in the evening. The town is a very pleasant 20 minute walk down hill. Beware of the cobbles. The whole town has been done in them and they are killers on the feet! There a dozens of restaurants in town - you will never starve in Buzios. The hotel runs a complimentary shuttle bus to the town each night starting at 8.00 and returning on the half hour. If you plan on walking into town and getting the bus back ,make sure you know where to pick it up. We got caught out twice by this as it did not pick up where the hotel told us it would. the third night we got the bus into town and the pick up was where we got dropped off but this was nowhere near where we were told.
As soon as you get there book yourself on the Buzios Trolley tour which goes 3 times every day for a 2 hour tour US$15. Its a great way to see the area and very enjoyable.
Overall we would recommend the hotel and would stay there again if we ever went back to Buzios
