Stayed here for five nights for Christmas last year, from 23rd to 27th December, with my husband so this a very belated review!

We had booked Villa Bambuti solely on the basis of the reviews on this website and we were not disappointed. It is exactly as it looks in the photos and the hospitality offered by the hosts goes beyond anything I have ever experienced before.

Debbie organised a driver for us from Rio to Buzios and we arrived hot and sticky in the afternoon where we were greeted with a cocktail and nibbles on the terrace and asked to join Debbie and Luiz, two of their friends staying with them for Christmas and another couple who had also just checked in. We were made feel very welcome and this continued throughout the stay-we really did feel like we were staying in their home, rather than a hotel or guesthouse. And this was bearing in mind that it was Christmas time and Debbie and Luiz had their own guests and family staying with them too.

The pool area is fantastic and the views sublime. We had a downstairs room which was small but adequate and nicely decorated. We had a terrace, again with wonderful views. While this is quite a social place to stay, and you will probably spend a lot of your time sitting around the pool chatting to Debbie and Luiz, their friends and other guests, the downstairs rooms are very private and you can be on your own as well if you prefer.

Debbie and her friends were great for tips on beaches, hiring buggies, taxis and places to eat and drink. We were given a map and talked through it by Debbie's niece Angie, who deserves a special mention-she was so helpful and friendly throughout our stay.

Breakfast as most other reviewers have said is served on the terrace and is fresh and plentiful. We had juice, fruit, granola, yoghurt, ham, cheese and a selection of bread and cake every morning, and a different hot dish each day. There was in fact far to much food for us! It set us up well each day though for the beach.

Getting into town is easy-we hired a buggy which we used during the day and got taxis at night which are cheap and arrive within minutes of ordering.

We had only two negatives. The first was a small point really, but the water in the shower was cold or very luke warm on most evenings when we were getting ready to go out. We never bothered saying anything so perhaps this could have been fixed if we had, but I know other guests had the same experience. The other negative related to the transport back to Rio and was not Debbie and Luiz' fault but just mentioning it as a word of warning. Their usual driver was not available so a taxi was arranged for us instead. The journey was fine but not far outside of Rio the driver stopped for petrol a second time, having stopped just outside Buzios. We went into the garage shop to get a drink, leaving all of our bags and luggage in the car. We came out of the shop to see the driver taking off at speed out of the garage with the sliding passenger door we had not closed properly still open!!! Luckily my husband had his mobile phone on him and had the number for Villa Bambuti so we phoned Debbie and she said she would get on to the company who organised the driver. Within minutes she phoned back to say they had gotten in touch with the driver and he has not realised we were not in the back seat and was on his way back. He did arrive back offering a lame apology and charged us the full whack when we got to Rio, not seeming to appreciate the fright he had given us. Whether it was a genuine mistake or an opportunistic robbery attempt we will never know but be careful in similar circumstances!!

All in all Villa Bambuti was a very special and relaxed place to stay, especially for Christmas when we were away from home. I would highly recommend it and it is exceptional value for money.

I can only echo the reviews from all the previous guests who have raved about Debbie and Luis (& Zulu)! This actually was our first "pousada" and we were not sure what to expect. We arrived really early but were allowed to settle in our rooms and were greeted with fresh coffee and breads (weren't suppose to be there for breakfast). As the others have said, the breakfast is superb, and the conversation you have with Debbie and Luis make you forget you have beaches to go explore. You just lose all track of time! We even had our 15-year old daughter who said she enjoyed the villa rather than go to a resort close to the beach where it's packed full of people and noise. We had our car so had no problems with getting to the beaches or into town for dinner or shopping. Highly recommend the dune buggies which look like fun and some of the roads it's almost a must have! Highly recommend Minerio's Grill (thanks Luis) and Don Juans for great and reasonable steaks. Also the pizza is fantastic at Parvati's. Nothing else to add but Villa Bambuti is THE place to stay in Buzios for food, conversation, and relaxation!

It is rare that one goes in to accommodations as a guest and leaves as genuine friends. This happened to us and to many others too as you can see from prior reviews. We spent ten fabulous days right after Carnival in Debbie & Luis’ Villa Bambuti and it is an absolute gem of a place. We were also lucky to spend time with Debbie's family visiting from South Africa together with their friends in the area.

The things we absolutely loved:
The quick and speedy response in the reservation process via email and website;
The warm and personal welcome as we arrived at their villa;
Welcome snacks and perfectly chilled wine (at any time!);
The complementary breakfasts with fresh juices, beautifully sliced mango and other fruit selections, granola, cold meats, cheeses, eggs, bread basket assortment, tea/coffee to your taste – all served on your private table under the shaded patio whilst enjoying the view;
The beautifully appointed room with personal knickknacks collected from around the world;
Lovely large shower with good water pressure;
The lavish breakfasts;
The pool outside our front door with the superb view overlooking Ferradura Bay;
The cleanliness of the rooms, pool, and garden surrounds;
GREAT advice on restaurants, beaches, and not-to-miss activities;
Wireless internet for your own laptop or the use of the house computer in easy reach;
The safety factor – personal keys for rooms as well as the gate/house when arriving back after a night out on the town;
Antonio, a wonderful person, and their private driver, who efficiently collected us from Rio after the Carnival and safely transported us back to the airport;
And…..did I mention the decadent breakfasts?

The things we weren’t crazy about:
Having to leave such warm hospitality and sunshine back to winter in Washington DC. If you’re looking for a place in Buzios – there is no other place to look, you’ve found it!

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend escape from Rio where we have been staying for a month. The villa is beautiful and tastefully decorated with an eclectic mix of Brazilian, South African and Moroccan decor. It has an old world traveler feel to the place. We stayed in one of the regular rooms downstairs (there are two rooms downstairs). The room has french doors that open to a gorgeous view of the hillside and ocean and is very private, even though the room is adjacent to another room. The bathroom is a nice size and has a very cool full length sliding glass shower door that I haven't seen in the U.S.. One thing I've noticed in Brazil is that they don't use washcloths so bring your own or even better, bring your own wash scrunchy.

The owners/hosts of the property, Debbie and Luiz are wonderful people. I have been fighting a cold for over a month and Debbie was so sweet to go out of her way more than a few times to cook my healing herbs, put the concoction in a container and have if for me when I needed. It's that kind of personal attention that makes all the difference.

The villa has a gorgeous view and is nice and quite. The breakfast was amazing. The presentation was beautiful and we were served many fruits, an egg quiche, juice, coffee fresh bread and muffins and cereal with yogurt. It was decadent.

Please note that the villa is located up on a hill so you can either take a 30 minute walk into the main center, rent a dune buggy or take a taxi which costs $10 rais (approx. US 6.00). If you choose to stay in town it will be noisier. People come to Buzios for the view. Also, we found the cleanest ocean water at Geriba beach. We checked out some of the smaller beaches on the peninsula but they had small, narrow beaches and the water wasn't as clean as Geriba. Geriba also has good surf for all you surfers out there and good amenities, but it is a busy beach.

Thanks Debbie, Luiz and Angie for your hospitality and warm spirit. We hope to return soon (in good health next time :-) )

“Simply Amazing”

Villa Bambuti

Mar 5, 2008

We stayed at the Villa Bambuti in Mid February. Words can not express how happy we were. The room was wonderful. Breakfast was amazing. Debbie and Luis helped us with anything we needed. My travels have taken me to six continents, staying a many different types of hotels. Villa Bambuti might have been the best place I have stayed in!
