It is rare that one goes in to accommodations as a guest and leaves as genuine friends. This happened to us and to many others too as you can see from prior reviews. We spent ten fabulous days right after Carnival in Debbie & Luis’ Villa Bambuti and it is an absolute gem of a place. We were also lucky to spend time with Debbie's family visiting from South Africa together with their friends in the area.

The things we absolutely loved:
The quick and speedy response in the reservation process via email and website;
The warm and personal welcome as we arrived at their villa;
Welcome snacks and perfectly chilled wine (at any time!);
The complementary breakfasts with fresh juices, beautifully sliced mango and other fruit selections, granola, cold meats, cheeses, eggs, bread basket assortment, tea/coffee to your taste – all served on your private table under the shaded patio whilst enjoying the view;
The beautifully appointed room with personal knickknacks collected from around the world;
Lovely large shower with good water pressure;
The lavish breakfasts;
The pool outside our front door with the superb view overlooking Ferradura Bay;
The cleanliness of the rooms, pool, and garden surrounds;
GREAT advice on restaurants, beaches, and not-to-miss activities;
Wireless internet for your own laptop or the use of the house computer in easy reach;
The safety factor – personal keys for rooms as well as the gate/house when arriving back after a night out on the town;
Antonio, a wonderful person, and their private driver, who efficiently collected us from Rio after the Carnival and safely transported us back to the airport;
And…..did I mention the decadent breakfasts?

The things we weren’t crazy about:
Having to leave such warm hospitality and sunshine back to winter in Washington DC. If you’re looking for a place in Buzios – there is no other place to look, you’ve found it!

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend escape from Rio where we have been staying for a month. The villa is beautiful and tastefully decorated with an eclectic mix of Brazilian, South African and Moroccan decor. It has an old world traveler feel to the place. We stayed in one of the regular rooms downstairs (there are two rooms downstairs). The room has french doors that open to a gorgeous view of the hillside and ocean and is very private, even though the room is adjacent to another room. The bathroom is a nice size and has a very cool full length sliding glass shower door that I haven't seen in the U.S.. One thing I've noticed in Brazil is that they don't use washcloths so bring your own or even better, bring your own wash scrunchy.

The owners/hosts of the property, Debbie and Luiz are wonderful people. I have been fighting a cold for over a month and Debbie was so sweet to go out of her way more than a few times to cook my healing herbs, put the concoction in a container and have if for me when I needed. It's that kind of personal attention that makes all the difference.

The villa has a gorgeous view and is nice and quite. The breakfast was amazing. The presentation was beautiful and we were served many fruits, an egg quiche, juice, coffee fresh bread and muffins and cereal with yogurt. It was decadent.

Please note that the villa is located up on a hill so you can either take a 30 minute walk into the main center, rent a dune buggy or take a taxi which costs $10 rais (approx. US 6.00). If you choose to stay in town it will be noisier. People come to Buzios for the view. Also, we found the cleanest ocean water at Geriba beach. We checked out some of the smaller beaches on the peninsula but they had small, narrow beaches and the water wasn't as clean as Geriba. Geriba also has good surf for all you surfers out there and good amenities, but it is a busy beach.

Thanks Debbie, Luiz and Angie for your hospitality and warm spirit. We hope to return soon (in good health next time :-) )

“Simply Amazing”

Villa Bambuti

Mar 5, 2008

We stayed at the Villa Bambuti in Mid February. Words can not express how happy we were. The room was wonderful. Breakfast was amazing. Debbie and Luis helped us with anything we needed. My travels have taken me to six continents, staying a many different types of hotels. Villa Bambuti might have been the best place I have stayed in!

Villa Bambuti exceeded our expectations in every way and we had read all the great reviews on trip advisor. Debbie and Luis make you feel at home right from the minute you walk in the door. We arrived tired in the early evening and were immediately given food and drink. This is such a relaxing place to stay and the rooms have superb balconies/views over the ocean. It is a 25 min walk to the town but this was no problem as taxis are cheap and reliable. In fact one Italian/Dutch couple moved Pousada to stay here as all the orthers they had seen were nowher near as good as the Villa Bambuti. We hired their private driver, Antonio, to take us back to Rio. He took us to Corcovado too and waited with all our luggage whilst we went up. We had no worries about out stuff being safe. He then took us to the airport - a great stressfree end to our holiday. Thanks Debbie, Luis and Angie !!!!!

My review is very late due to many things, but I wanted to be sure to write one. Villa Bambuti was absolutely fabulous! For starters, the place is charming, classy and casual all at once! The decor very special and done w/love - you can tell. There is no way to convey just how welcoming the hosts were. (I had to make adjustments to our reservations a few times over a couple of months and Debbie was SO gracious about it each time!)
While the weather during our 3 day stay was passable, w/at least some sun but also a little rain, there were a few guests there who had had several days of rain, but were SO happy that they had come to Villa Bambuti just the same.

Our trip started in RIo and from there we visited Iguazu Falls, flew back to Rio, got a car and drove to Buzios. This was the perfect way to do Buzios - after you do more active things or "city" things. We arrived a bit weary from driving in light rain and having to take a confusing detour about 45 min. from Buzios, but we finally got on the right track. We had a large villa room overlooking the pool; like in their photo (canopy bed, view of the sea, etc.). As soon as we checked in, we were offered drinks on the veranda, and our hostess graciously socialized w/us and a couple of other interesting guests. This cocktail hour seemed to occur every evening around 5 or 6, and we enjoyed these times so much! It was an "easy" atmosphere. Breakfast -well, we took our's on the terrace and WOW! Debbie is a FABULOUS cook and the presentation was awesome!!! English style w/lovely containers for the butter; flowers set into fruity drinks, and touches to rival the finest hotel. The setting is upscale, peaceful, and casual. Debbie and Luis are so friendly and loaded w/suggestions on places to eat, to go, and all manner of interesting information. The other member of their family, Zulu, was very well mannered and made the place all that much more like visiting good friends.

Most of the people we met here were well traveled, interesting, friendly and very down to earth. Their ages during our visit ran around 30 to 40. We were more near the hosts' age and felt right at home.

The view (of the ocean in the distance, and surrounding hills) was calming. Villa Bambuti is actually located on a hill in an upscale neighborhood of private residences. Yet it is a short drive into town (or you can take a cab). We hope to return someday and will FOR SURE stay there. I had been a bit concerned over whether it would be too far from the bustle of the town. But it was perfect. . . . By the way, do not be disappointed as you arrive in Buzios. You will wonder if it is going to be all that you read! But do not judge it until you get into the main area of town, which is sort of like the Lahaina of Brazil. - Lots of shops, restaurants, people strolling in the evening - and we were there in the off season! Our inn was the perfect place to wind down after daytime activities and the perfect place to return to each night. I saw some of the other places we had considered staying along the sea, and felt we had made the absolute best choice! You won't find many places this great (and we have traveled a LOT. ) I can only imagine very, very picky and extremely hard to please types not raving about this place! We feel privilaged to have stayed here!
