“Best Location to View the Falls at any Time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

When I organised our trip a must was to stay in the best location to appreciate the falls. The hotel is splendid a step away from magnificent views of these amazing falls. The rooms are spacious, the bar offers affordable snacks and meals. To be able to wake early and walk and view the falls before the Park is open to others was a real bonus. Definitely worth the expenses after travelling so far to see the falls. I thought the Brazilian side had better panoramic views without having to walk as far as the Argentinian side.

Room Tip: You can chhose a room without a view to cut costs and not be disappointed

Very disappointing experience - we had sent several emails advising the hotel that we were on our honeymoon but this memorable event was ignored by the hotel. Not a single thing was done to make us feel special. Our room was at the back of the hotel and overlooked the Tradesmens entrance and garbage enclosures.

this is the best hotel i have ever stopped in 12 out of 10 everything about this hotel is amazing, from the location, staff, rooms, food this hotel is sheer luxury.the attentive staff are there to help you and they don t disappoint.the pool area was a pleasure to relax by after a hot day exploring the falls, which are spectacular,a tip for anyone visiting the falls would be to hire a guide,as you have to see both sides of the falls,so you are back and forth over the border which is an effort in the heat.

Booked a cataratas view room and unlike others, I would recommend spending a bit extra for a view of the falls. There's nothing like waking up in the morning and looking out your window to see a magnificent view of the falls and toucans sitting in the trees just outside. As others have mentioned, the location of the hotel inside the park gives up you access to the falls before the bus loads of tourists arrive. We walked most of the trail without seeing any other people. The room itself was a bit on the smaller side but I didn't mind because none of the suites have a falls view. The complimentary Havaianas were a nice touch. WiFi was fast and reliable. The pool was nice and relaxing. The bedding could be improved by including a duvet instead of just a waffle blanket. Breakfast buffet was included and the selection and quality was decent. Had the Brazilian rodizio style BBQ buffet for dinner one night and it was pretty good. The a la carte menu was ok as well. I would say that the prices were fairly typical of a hotel restaurant and I was actually expecting it to be more expensive given the secluded location of the hotel and based on other reviews. I did not find the food to be too salty as many others have mentioned but the table next to us did complain about it. The "concierge" is essentially a 3rd party tour operator called Iguassu Experiences. If you want to do boat or helicopter trips, I would just take the park bus directly to those sites and save some money. Otherwise the service at the hotel was quite acceptable. Keep in mind that this is not a 5 star hotel nor do they claim to be so I'm not sure why some reviewers were expecting a 5 star experience. You're paying for the location and it is well worth it.

We stayed a couple of nights in the Hotel das Cataratas and it was simply amazing! The hotel, while being extremely impressive, is all about the location. It's set inside the park which means that you get to experience early mornings and sunsets over the falls while the park is closed to the public! From the moment we checked in until we left, the attention to detail in this hotel and the staff were fantastic. Food in both restaurants was magnificent and we had breakfast, which was included, by the pool on both mornings. The rooms are wonderful, plenty of space and lovely touches that you expect with a 5 star hotel and the day spa is also worth a visit if you fancy extra pampering! Yes this hotel is pricey but it was definitely worth it!

Location, luxury, and relaxation. This is the best spot to stay if you can afford it as it is inside the park and you can walk out the front door to an incredible view of the falls. Food was outstanding although our eating hours didn't match up with the restaurant. A la carte is only available as lunch until 3 and then full buffet and a la carte at 7:30. Otherwise just sandwiches by the pool. Buffet breakfast was excellent. Linens in the room are high quality, towels are bath sheet size and the toiletries are fabulous. Rooms were quiet and spacious. Wifi throughout was good but I could not email hi res photos or any videos from our visits to the falls. This was the perfect time of year to go. Smaller crowds at the falls and perfect weather.

We flew into Iguassu from Lima arriving at a very small airport where Immigration took some time. Our transfer to the hotel was in two parts. Firstly our guide took us by car a very short distance to the gates of the National Park where we transferred to the Das Cataratas Courtesy Bus which operates between the hotel and the gate every 20 minutes with a journey that takes on average 12 minutes.

Iguassu Falls are truly amazing and are a must do on any tour of South America. The sight of some 275 waterfalls is awesome and located within such a lush park with its butterflies, toucans and other wildlife - this is a wonderful spectacle. Undoubtedly Das Cataratas has the best location by far of any hotel on either side - Brazilian or Argentinian - of the Falls and the only hotel situated in the National Park. It is an impressive building - beautiful in its nighttime floodlights and gives unlimited access to the Brazilian falls at any time.

Our Superior room was dominated by the double-bed and furniture giving very little space for movement or luggage. It was fairly dark even in the middle of the day. Likewise the bathroom was small in comparison to those offered in most 5 Star hotels. The room as expected was well-appointed and clean. The bed was very comfortable.

The hotel has character and features a tremendous swimming pool and pool bar around which a great many guests relax and enjoy the climate. Breakfast, Lunch and some dinners are served in the restaurant next to the swimming pool. The breakfast buffet was extensive and we enjoyed the Brazilian BBQ especially the high quality and excellently seasoned beef. The bar service was excellent although the bar itself is not particularly comfortable and rather outdated despite the pianist doing his best to generate atmosphere.

What was strange was that the hotel closes its shop on a Saturday to allow the two staff members who operate the shop to have a day off. Likewise in a 5 star hotel there was nowhere to buy a stamp and it was suggested to us by the Reception Desk that we could travel to Iguassu. Recognising that its location is rather isolated, I would have thought that having the facility to make simple purchases that are important to their guest's stay would have been part of the service.

Certainly Das Cararatas is the place to stay to see the Falls but we were not over-impressed as we were with the other 4 Orient Express Hotels that we enjoyed on our holiday.
