“Nice Hotel but far from attractions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

I booked this hotel because I thought they had a Hot Springs pool. I thought "Thermas" in the name of the hotel was because they had a Hot Spring pool. I had booked Mabu Thermas earlier and It happened that the "Suite Master with Hot Tub" was on sale for the days we selected and I ended canceling Mabu Thermas. According to the tour guide, Mabu Thermas is the only hotel in Foz do Iguacu with Minerals pool.

The room: It was REALLY a nice large room, with two queen beds, flat screen TV, large bathroom with separated shower and toilet. Safety was included. A must. We also got nice bath robes. It was almost perfect if the balcony had a better view. All I could see from the window were trees blocking the view. Like right there, very close to the window. Note that the balcony is just half balcony. I am sure the rooms with Pool View would be much nicer.

Front desk: Very poor service for check-in. They did not explain anything about the hotel amenities. They did not say a word about any of them; and they had so much for kids, as well as a nice library and game room that I found on the last day just before the check-out.

The pools: It was nice, but far from great. And it was disappointing that the indoor pool was closed. And again, it is not a Hot Spring.

Location: Very far from the Falls and airport. It was closer to the Itaipu Binacional and Paraguay's border. Nothing to do around.

Restaurant and room service: We ate lunch at the restaurant and ordered room service for 3 nights. It was average in taste and a bit expensive. But without a car, hard to go around and find good restaurants since it is far from everything. The breakfast included in the price was just good, not great. The quality was very good, but I had better breakfast in much smaller hotels in Brazil before.

Overall: Rooms are nice, good hotel, but far from been called "Resort". I saw some constructions around. Maybe they are expanding to become a Resort.

Room Tip: If you want a really large room, go for the Suite with hot tubs. And the Manager told me that if you...

We traveled with two kids and a baby. The amenities are great; huge pool, indoor pool, play romm for babies and for kids, hotel instructors who play with the kids. Really great. From our experience, the rooms have two standards: youth hostel style, and more classic style. The hotel has an option for two connecting rooms, however these rooms are extremely small and have no bath- only shower, which is problematic when travelling with a baby. On top of that the room was so small that here was no room to fit a crib next to the double bed. (these rooms were definitely youth hotel style. We asked to change to a bigger room (we did not mind being all in one room- as long as it can room all of us), and were answered no by two different desk persons. We thought to change hotel but than on the third time we had better luck. A guy named Robson was extremely nice and offered to move us to one big room with two double beds and a lot of space to put the crib- for the same price. The room was huge! and also pretty and had a shower and a bath.
The food was great- lot's of options. The location of the hotel- far from all the attractions which means that if you take a day trip with a company that picks up other tourists from their hotels - you will probably be the first and last to get off. We were picked up very early in the morning... .not much fun during a vacation...

Room Tip: The left wing of the hotel seems much newer and the rooms are nicer

The room was very small and basic with not enough space to hang clothes. But they may be updating and we had an old room. The complex has everything you could wish for outside, an amazing pool and entertainment area but if the weather is bad there is not a comfortable warm lounge to sit in. There is nothing around here so you will need to eat at the hotel. It was buffet style and did offer a wide choice and good value. The pool bar was also good for food.A lot of the staff do not speak english which can be difficult. The rating is for the surroundings, the room would be poor.

This might rate five stars were it not for a couple of things. It's location is not really close to the Falls,or even the National Park entrance, and there is NOTHING around within walking distance by way of restaurants, banks, stores, or services. The front desk staff was very businesslike, if not particularly friendly in comparison to other places I've stayed in Brazil. Everything about the exterior of this place shouts "look at ME", and the stilted, formal musical serenade at dinnertime made me wish for a Bill Murray appearance. The pool area is huge and very nice; the gym is one of the best equipped I've seen in Brazil. The buffets at both breakfast and dinner were the BEST I experienced in Brazil. Our bedroom was good sized, modern, and very functional with excellent beds. There are supposedly better hotels in Foz than the Recanto Park, but if you have transportation to the Falls, this is an excellent choice.

Hello "RodK47"! Firstly we would like to thank you for evaluating our hotel! For us it is very gratifying to have this positive feedback from our guests! We would like to clarify that the Hotel is a Thermal Resort one, it has pools supplied with thermal water, and is located located in an area that allows us to offer the variety of entertainment that we have, fully integrated into a green area of environmental preservation. Besides all leisure services and food, which complete the stay. What would be impossible to provide if we were located in the city center. Really sorry you have not enjoyed the live music during dinner, is a presentation of the regional culture. Once again thank you for your comments! Greetings!

We stayed at the Recanto for only one night for a quick visit to the fabulous falls. The hotel is large, well-cared for and has most friendly staff. The rooms are ok but what really swiped us off our feet was the dinner buffet in the cathedral-like dining hall. Simply beyond compare, it is only surpassed by a few hotels in the Arab Emirates and at the Manila Sofitel. Other than that: Recanto: douze points!!
Then there is the nice swimming pool, great for a refreshing plunge if you did not get wet already touring the falls. Breakfast is complete with a good choice indeed. Overall very pleased indeed.

My husband and I stayed in this resort for 4 nights to celebrate our 8 years together and still we did not tget to enjoy all of its amenities. I heard it is the mkst ecological hotel in Foz, due to its bamboo architecture and green actions. It is a very family hotel and you could actually see parents and their little babies and kids playing at the pool. There is also a recreational team to entertain the little guests- a time out for the parents! The swimming pool is actually a complex system of water bodies at all depths. You can have drinks at the pool's bar and drink it while refreshing in the water. Their food is also exquisite, we had yummy sandwiches and a delicious fried calamari portion. Still talking about food, breakfast has all sorts of foods, a variety that was practically impossible to try it all. Rooms were very clean and comfy. We had this balcony with a view to the pool (most rooms have that!)- beautiful! The price was comparable to most well-known hotels in the city center, but with much more to offer. Well worth it! Its location is half way from the Cataratas and Paraguay, and 10 min from the city centre, where there is not much to do I´m afraid... The main disadvantage: you have to pay for the wi-fi. The staff were very friendly too. All in all, we will definitely stay there again next time we visit Foz. Having this structure is fundamental for a little break between the hectic programme of visits and touristic sights.

We stayed here as part of a group tour of South America. We had two nights and the general consensus from the group was that we all wanted to see the back of the place. Firstly the reception didn't exchange money of any kind. Probably the first in the world! Secondly the wifi wasn't free. Admittedly it was on £1.50 for 2 hours but it was slow. If I pay I expect it to be quicker. There was no free water in room, most of the hotels on our trip gave a small bottle each person. As there was no nearby shop we had to buy mini bar water to brush our teeth.
The was no sink plug in bathroom, so I used toilet paper as a plug so I could shave. The safe wasn't free and cost approx £1 per night, it's not the money it's the principal, again all the other hotels safes were free of charge. The rooms were wooden floored and therefore could be noisy depending who was above you. You also heard your neighbours showers runnng, toilets flushing etc.
The worst part was the staff. Only a few could speak any English and most were disinterested. I know we were in a foreign land but it was a tourist hotel in a tourist destination. At one point whilst trying to order room service, the reception suggested I come down to reception to order my meal. Completely negates the point of room service!
The positives were nice walk in shower, rooms were well furnished, there was a/c in the rooms, the breakfast was good with lots of choice. Pool was nice.

Dear "slappy" First we would like to thank you for evaluating our hotel. We would like to clarify the fact that we make no exchange at the hotel are due to legal issues, the Brazilian law as well as issues related to personal safety of our guests and employees.
