Agree with comments of the other reviewer - hotel is about 4 star, probably deserved 5 stars ten or more years ago.
Expensive at nearly US$270 a night.
Great position to get to the falls - including the Argentinian side which is a must. On the way back do stop at the Duty Free Shop. Booze is mega cheap.
Pools are great if a little dated and in need of upgrading.
Food is ok, interesting desserts. Papaya and Watermelon was some of the best we had in Brazil.
Two bars - one inside is ok, the other pool side bar is adequate.
Great hotel for famlies as plenty of staff support to take care of the kids and keep them amused whilst you have a break.
Rooms are a very good size, we had two double beds. Bathroom is ok - no bath, just the shower.
Take a travel iron, other than the Sheraton in Rio, all the other 5 star hotels we stayed at would not provide an iron. We did have a small suite at the Sheraton and was provided with an iron and ironing board which was great. Laundry services at any hotel is relatively expensive.
Staff at hotel are helpful and friendly even if they don't speak english, they will try or find someone who does.
Taxi is very safe and not expensive.
Brazilian BBQ is much the same as the Argentinian and not my idea of a BBQ. T bone is best, but all the meats treated with the same salty sauce, so it was much of a muchness. You can have much the same in London.
Good luck, falls are simply amazing, do take the boat trip up the river. Take a spare set of clothes.
MAKE SURE YOU GO AT A TIME WHEN THE WATER LEVELS ARE HIGH, otherwise you might be dissapointed.
