“Absolutely fine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2011

Location as good as any other in Brasilia (so plan before going out because a taxi is most likely needed).
Nice room, recently decorated.
Generous breakfast.
Helpful and friendly staff.
Nice pool and poolside bar.

This is my third hotel in Brailia with the others ranging from awful to average. However this hotel is very good, the rooms are spacious, modern and come with all the amenities. The breakfast is also excellent and the public areas as well as rooms are very clean. Assuming you get a nice room this is rightfully a hotel which shows off the city.

A quick check of the bathroom reveals that unlike other hotels here they really do deep clean everything, there is no mold, dirt or stains hiding in areas not normally visible.

My own room was on the 15th floor which seems to have been renovated very recently. The result is that the room was new and quite chic, the only downside was that there is no sound proofing in the windows and you can hear quite a lot of noise from outside. The view from the 15th floor is also amazing and you can see right across Brasilia. There is also a rather nice glass elevator, which is cool but not for those who dislike heights or elevators!

As I said the breakfast was excellent, you have a choice of hot and cold food, some freshly made in front of you as well as cakes and fruits. The cost of breakfast is also included in the fee.

Wifi is available in the foyer but not in the rooms, instead you must use a wired connected. This was generally reliable and quite fast but suffered from the occasional halt. I have no problem with wired connections as they are more secure than the readily hackable wireless options available.

The staff are in general friendly, but overall nothing to write home about. The public areas are all well maintained and clean, with the reception area being somewhat upmarket.

Just make sure you ask for a room in the new section, otherwise as you can see from the other reviews you will be very very disappointed.

I would give this hotel 5 stars, if it were not for the problems with traffic noise. If you can live with that then consider it a 5 star. If you can get room on the 15th floor then this hotel really will make your stay in Brasilia worth while.

A very ugly breakfast room, grubby floors, construction work going on - the only good thing was the very friendly staff at the reception.

When i checked in i was given a room that would be suitable for quick hore services. After i cancelled my colleagues' bookings and told the reception that i would check out the next day, they all of a sudden discovered another room, exactly opposite the previous one, that was a bit better. This room's sockets were leaning off the wall, the floor was full of different cables (LIGHTS, TV), while the blankets that were stored in the top shelf of the wardrobe were smelling bad. The TV set and bathroom setting must have the same age with the founder of Brasilia. The only good thing was the breakfast which was rich but still served in an absolutely outdated environment. I am still wondering how this Hotel could be given a 5-STAR rating. Choose another Hotel cause travellers deserve more respect.

It´s not a 5 star hotel maybe a 3 star - old carpet in the corridor, terrible internet service and a very slowly service.

Staff is friendly but everything you need will take a long time.

Breakfast and Diamantina Restaurant is good. Try the delicious Kubitschek Pudim - a tipical version of pudim de leite (a brazilian dessert)

Very expansive for an old hotel.

This hotel has lots of memorabilia from the former president, lots of photos, and certainly the same beds, closets, baths from when JK was alive (he died in the mid 70´s). It was, a long time ago a 4* hotel, nowadays it is at most a 3* hotel.

Maintenance is not a strong point in this city and the hotel reflects it. The aluminum frames of the windows are corroded, the carpet and furniture were stained, and the bathroom fixtures are just OLD. I suppose they can't help that the view of the TV tower is obscured by the unfinished hotel right next door. A clock would be nice. The door isn't soundproof so any noise in the hallway comes right into the room. Windows are single-pane untempered glass so street noise isn't well muffled.

To their credit, the staff is excellent, practically falling all over themselves to be helpful. They didn't seem to be used to having Americans stay, but the English spoken at the Front Desk is fluent, and the rest of the staff seems eager to try a few words.

Free breakfast in the morning is very good. They can't cook an omelet, but they make any other eggs to order. Nice big spread - good coffee. The Plaza Restaurant is one of the best in the city, IMHO.

The Internet connection is wonky. Wireless works only at the Front Desk and the Ethernet connection is SLOOOWWW. Think dial-up (but maybe all Internet connections in Brazil are slow?) It will suddenly blink out from time to time and you'll lose your connection.

Electricity is 220V, but they will provide a transformer if you ask. Do ask. The cute little adapters you get at Radio Shack won't work here.

Overall, about the level of a well-worn Embassy Suites, but with a more helpful staff.
