“good quality hotel but souless”

Melia Brasil 21

Jan 3, 2007

The Tryp/Melia Brasilia was a very good hotel. The staff spoke English and were very helpful. The sitting, bedroom and bathroom were very large. The hotel was modern and undergoing some samll scale changes as it had just changed hands. We asked for the Tryp hotel but the taxi drivers all knew it as the Melia chain. Could not fault the rooms there were large, clean, well furnished and it felt like a luxury hotel. The view were great over the TV tower. The rest of the hotel was souless, reception, resturant, coridoors were off white polished stone. The room had an electronic safe for no extra charge and expansive bar with kitchnet. The only downside was the location. Great for business but there were no resturant or cafes nearby. So snacks were taken at the nearby bus station or in the hotel resturant wihc had a very cheap buffet in the evening.

Good points.
Room - great size, good layout and well furnised. It felt classy.
Staff - English spoken with ease and very helpful
Electronic safe at no charge.
Good hotel chain ( we used three of their hotels).
Gym
Cheap evening buffet (not drink though)

General
Location good or bad depending why you are in town.

Bad
Souless business hotel
Tiny round pool
Expensive bar items

Reccomendation.
I would use this hotel again at any time fro buiness. If it were a special socail occasion I would either use the hotel then travel about town for resturant in a taxi. Overall excellant for price

Very clean hotels, very courteous staff. However, on the night we stayed, there was a rock band performing in the lounge until 1 am. Even though we had a room on the 19th floor, the hollow lobby to 20th floor architecture of the hotel carries the sound all the way up. Other than that, we enjoyed the comfort of the room and continental breakfast.

“Beautiful hotel”

This is a beautiful, very comfortable hotel. The rooms are spacious with lots of room to spread out; the bathrooms are equally posh. The lobby is large and comfortable. There is a business center; internet access is available for a small fee. The restaurant is nice and serves a great breakfast buffet with many choices. The menu at lunch and dinner is not light and the portions are large, but very good.

Our group had a few snags with logistics (when meeting rooms were supposed to be ready, etc.), but the hotel took care of things when advised of the problems.

My husband and I just returned from Brazil and stayed at the Melia Brasilia. This is a great hotel. The staff is extremely friendly and will do whatever they can to assist you. The restaurant in the hotel is fantastic! Wonderful food and wonderful staff! The room is very spacious, clean and upscale. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone heading to Brazil.

I spent three nights at the Melia Brasilia in August 2005, and I loved this hotel. It is international in style - nothing typically Brazilian about it - but I had a very enjoyable stay. Plus, Brasilia is a modern, international city. There aren't really any charming historic inns, so indulge in good cable and efficient air conditioning and don't feel like you're missing out on the "authentic" experience!

The rooms are large and nicely equipped. Tasteful, understated decor with a few artistic black-and-white pictures of Brazilian architecture, king-sized bed, nice feather pillows (with a pillow menu in case you would prefer a different type of pillow), efficient air conditioner that is not noisy, great cable selection and large tv, large modern bathroom with a very large shower, good water pressure and sufficient hot water, and a pretty good breakfast. Breakfast has a good selection, including scrambled eggs and bacon, alongside traditional pastries and fresh fruit. There is even a blender if you want to make a smoothie.

All of the above is what you expect of a 5 star hotel. (This is a Brazilian five-star... this hotel is not the Four Seasons, but more like an upscale Hilton or something of similar quality). What really seduced me was the friendly, efficient staff. I believe that the hotel is mostly used by business travelers, but we as tourists found it to be perfectly suited to our needs. The staff was very helpful in suggesting restaurants, advising us on the closest ATM machine for foreign cards, suggesting additional sights to see, and even calling the Palacio do Justice to make arrangements for us to visit. Yes, any good hotel worth its salt should do all of the above, but unfortunately not all hotels are as helpful with advice, especially for tourists.

Location is not really an issue - nothing is really "central" in Brasilia, the city made for cars. Still, we never felt unsafe. There is a modern shopping mall within walking distance, as well as a churrascaria. (However, we had a better meal at the churrascaria Porcao, which was a short taxi ride away). Buses are close by, taxis are easy to come by (the front desk will have a taxi there in a minute), and you can even walk to the TV tower (just don't be afraid of crossing six lanes of traffic!).

Bottom line - I would definitely stay here again if I ever return to Brasilia. Great value for money (I booked directly on the Sol website) and a great stay.
