I stayed here for a week on business – it felt like one of the longest weeks of my life:
The noise from the building sites surrounding the hotel was constant and its dark everywhere but the top floors because skyscrapers circle the hotel with a picturesque petrol station out front to top it off.
The reception staff were unhelpful. When I asked them a question most of them seemed to raise an eyebrow and reluctantly answered me. They did not mention a local craft fair or outdoor concert very nearby when I asked them what there was to do on my day off – I found these things by accident. The bar is closed on a Sunday, when many business people arrive in town. My room key needed to be reset most days and the lifts must be the slowest lifts I have ever been in! My bathroom fan made one hell of a noise and the TV channel choices very limited, which is a shame because there is very little to do in this town. The food in the restaurant is pretty terrible and very expensive -my colleague’s salmon was like cardboard!
I wanted to relax by the pool (size of a postage stamp) for a few hours but the small area had been taken over by a really rowdy party who were drinking vodka from the bottle and had their stereo turned up to 11!- Several people came up to the roof pool and left in horror. I asked the attendant if this was allowed and if he could ask them to turn it down. He nervously did so but to no avail.
I could go on about this awful place but its just too depressing. I just want to warn anyone who is going to Brasilia - there has to be better places than this! I found this a soulless, repressive hotel.

The Melia Brasil 21 is a marvelous hotel located across the street from the tourist attraction TV tower in the center of Brasilia. My husband and I stayed for 8 nights and would recommend it without reservation. (Don't misunderstand, you have to make a reservation!) All staff were extremely courteous and helpful. The facilities were without fault, very clean and pleasing to the eyes. Our room had a king size bed, refrigerator, and the best shower I have ever had. While the room was air conditioned, it was also possible to open the window. Breakfast was included in our room rate and was a sumptuous feast served buffet style in a lovely dining room. We ate leisurely, and no one rushed us. Room service was reasonable and quick. The Churchill Lounge off the lobby is a dim and comfortable oasis with friendly waitstaff and two large screens playing music videos. We were within walking distance of a large mall, the city park and amusement park, and a wonderful native crafts market located at the base of the TV tower. There is a lovely outdoor swimming pool on the roof as well as a sauna. I can't say enough about the Melia 21!

What an outstanding hotel! Welcome and check-in were extremely cordial. The view from the glass elevators at the top of the atrium is just stunning.

The room was totally clean, very comfortable, and it exuded high quality throughout. Breakfast is also included in the room rate.

For an unforgettable dinner, eat at Fogo de Chao, which is across the street from the front entrance. While vegetarians should look elsewhere, there is plenty of perfectly prepared meat here, and the waiters will keep it coming until you put out the red card. I haven't had a restaurant meal that good in a long time!

I spent 4 nights at the Melia Brasilia, in spite of the somewhat negative reviews I read here. I found the hotel to be very well-run, with excellent services and good catering. They are making some very interesting efforts to be a "world-minded" -- ask for a room on the 5th floor, the "green" floor; everything is recycled or recyclable, and even the sheets on the beds are renewable and recyclable. The buffet breakfast, included with the room, is huge, and there is an outside balcony for eating if the weather is not too cool or too warm. The restaurant also does a very nice dinner. Many of the rooms are non-smoking; my only problem at all with this property was the lobby bar -- it's a cigar-bar, so there is no place for a non-smoker to sit and have a drink without breathing cigar smoke or smelling like a cigar.
