“Take time to read before you plan to visit an Appleton panda express!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013 via mobile

My boyfriend and I have differenting tastes when it comes to eating out, and while in the mall, we often chose panda express because he likes their orange chicken. We were excited when we discovered they would be opening 2 new locations in the Appleton area, one closer to our home. Since its grand opening a few months ago, we have visited and spent well over a hundred dollars at the calumet location, which is our bad for giving them so many chances, since with each visit, our experience has worsened! The first time we gave them the benefit of the doubt since it had just opened. We entered the dining area, which was jam-packed, as the line awkwardly wrapped around the people eating at the tables, so we were basically hovering over them as they ate while waiting for our turn to order. The tables that were empty were all dirty, garbage recepticles over-flowing, it was obvious they were understaffed. After waiting in a very cold and uncomfortable line for over a half hour, we finally ordered and were told they were out of half the items we wanted, so we ordered what we could and had to drive to a different chinese place across town to get the rest of our items. Each visit since the first incident has been pretty similar, with last weeks being the WORST yet. We arrived a little after the "dinner" push, probably between 6-7pm on a Wednesday night, wrongfully assuming that maybe they would be quicker and be more prepared this time. There were only a couple small groups infront of us, and a few people dining, and we still ended up waiting WELL over half an hour for what was supposed to be a quick grab and go dinner for us. We watched the employees dish up food for the drive thru, wich sat in the containers for pretty much the entire time we were waiting. Again, they were out a majority of the dinner items and the reason we stood there waiting so long, apparently was for 'chow-mein', one of their 5 choices for a side, something that we definitley should NOT have had to wait so long for replenishment! Had we been told we would be waiting so long, we would have turned around and went else where. Typical for them now, to have ill informed/ poorly trained staff, who did not inform us of that extensive of a wait, and management was no where to be found or at least made no effort to communicate any of the issues they were having to ANY of the customers before and after us in line. Finally when our lack-of-an-explanation of a wait was over the cashier charged us fully for our dinners, half of which now had been sitting boxed up for way too long, ended up costing us over $40 and almost an hour of our time. No apologies were made, no offer of anything complimentary for our insanely long wait, still no sign of management, and feeling bad for the family infront of us who probably had waited just as long or longer than us and had to ASK for coupons and free food and still received NO acknowledgment of such, we left, and don't plan on returning. So if you're looking for a quick meal, either after a long day at work, while on an hour lunch or dinner break, and want fresh food for a reasonable price, I'm warning you now, don't go to panda express, visit one of the other area restaurants instead!

“Too expensive!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

My 82-year-old mother wanted to try the new Panda Express on Calumet Street. I am sorry we did. For a little more than $6 you get a pile of old food on a plate. The chicken with string beans was tasteless and spongy. The noodles were tough. The beef was terrible! All the food wasn't hot! Then it was $1 extra for "good" beef. And $1.49 extra for an egg roll. When all said and done, it was nearly $9 for lunch. I could have went to Red Robin and ordered a burger that was freshly prepared for the same price. I will never go there again!

“Small, but tastey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

Nestled near between Taco Johns and Sheeles... give a go. There are several asian places to eat while at the mall. The Panda remains the best one.

“a bit grease”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2010

The panda express is kind of an asian fast food restaurant. The food taste actually good and is really cheap but it is a bit grease. They have however a lot of different foods that you can choose from so it is not all that greasy. There are also vegetables dishes there. For a quick meal is fine, but I wouldn't make it a habit.
