“Diamond in the ruff!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

The restaurant is connected to the Best Western, you could drive past and not even notice it. This would a mistake as the food and beer are outstanding. Was there with my wife and In-laws for dinner. Had a varietey of items from the menu. Everyone raved about the food. Service was great, really make you feel welcome.

“So So”

Wait staff okay, food was different but facility was kind of run down. The price seemed a little high.

“Wunderbar!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012

Schnitzel fans, this is the place. About a dozen varieties, along with all the other german favorites. Great beers on tap, friendly service, moderately priced. Kind of a german beer hall thing going (booths and picnic tables) but it works. Enjoy!

“Not Bad, But Not the Best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

I've lived in Germany, in Bavaria for two years, and gone back on vacations. To compare the food here, it is not what you expect if you've lived in Germany. I travel all over the U.S. on business, and have yet to find a German Restaurant that compares to real German food. The food at the Old Bavarian was good, but for Wisconsin, I would expect better with the German population here. I had the Jagerschnitzel which is a good food to compare to the real thing. Theirs was not bad, but I was hoping for veal and not pork. It did have plenty of gravy, but your typical American mushrooms. You have not had jagerschnitzel until you have it in Europe with the tiny mushrooms. Those are great, and have a much better flavor. The other thing I found disappointing was getting a breadstick, and no real German rolls like pretzel bread. They do have German beers, and a good selection. Overall, it was worth the price, and it was a large portion. If you can't make it to Germany, and you're in the Appleton area, it's the next best thing. Would I recommend the Old Bavarian to others, sure.

“Ausgezeichnet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

Excellent, Authentic German food. Salad bar is expensive and unimpressive. The added touch of German music on the weekends adds to the experience.
