We have spent the last 6 years at this hotel for New Year's Eve with multiple families. Every year has been such a fun time - until this year. We will never go back. Here is what happened to us: When we checked in, we immediately went to the pool area to get a good table (there are not enough tables and chairs in this place so we always go early). The air temperature in the pool room was cool - maybe 65 degrees or so. There were two huge vents that were open and were blowing in cold air from outside. I went to the front desk and was told that the dehumidifier in the pool area was broken and that the vents were blowing to control the humidity. According to the woman at the front desk, "It was 116 degrees in there today." So call a repair person! Don't pump in ice cold air! She also told me it would shut itself off when it reached the right temperature. It didn't. She came in 10 minutes later and turned it off. Then, the pool area humidity level became unbearable. 30 minutes later, everything was dripping wet. I love heat, but the moisture was awful. Why they didn't get anyone over to fix it I don't know. They also should have cleaned the pool. There was dirt all over the bottom and it was disgusting!!! Also, the hot tub was pushing out cool water and only half of the jets were working.
Nonetheless, we decided to grin and bear it. This is our family tradition and is always a fun time. However, after an hour or so of relaxing by the pool with our drinks, a woman from the front desk came in and told all of us that we would have to either finish our drinks or dump them out. What??? We have been coming to this hotel for years and have NEVER had a problem with this before. Plus, it's New Year's Eve! The reason most of us are there is to relax and have fun. Having a drink in the pool area made the unbearable humidity and filthy pool a little more tolerable. That being said ... those of us in the pool area (multiple parties) decided to go and talk to the staff about their "rule". They absolutely would not bend. When we told them we had been coming here for years, having drinks in the pool area, and have never had an issue, they blamed the new owners. When we asked to speak to the new owners, they blamed the AmericInn corporation. (We have stayed at AmericInns all over the country and have never had an issue with this before.). Next, they said it was an Appleton city code that you can't have beverages by the pool. What??? There are hotels all over the city that allow beverages - we know because we called and asked. The manager at the front desk told us, "You are welcome to leave and we will refund your money." So, our party, and 3 other groups (6 rooms that we know of) checked out and went somewhere else. As our kids were taking our luggage to the car, they heard other people saying they were going to leave, too. Please note: we are not a rowdy group, just families wanting to enjoy New Year's Eve safely, in a comfortable, relaxing environment!
The AmericInn lost our business last night, and we will never go back. We have had birthday parties at this hotel, we recommend this hotel to friends and family, and we even pay for day passes and go there to swim sometimes. Not anymore. This hotel has changed, and not for the better.
