“A great place to stay in Fortaleza!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2012

This is a really great hostel in Fortaleza, Brazil. Maria (owner) is super helpful and friendly, the price of the rooms is very reasonable, and the standard of cleanliness of the rooms and bathroom facilities is very high. The transport links to and from the hostel are good and there is a club about 15mins walk down the road for a night out. There is also a little shop across the road that has a surprisingly wide range of goodies. Would definitely return to Backpackers Ceara!

The owners speak some English, which is rare in Brazil. The common parts are very friendly. There's a kitchen so you can make your own food. Rooms are very basic but there is a fan in each of them. Bed in our room was not that bad...price in summer 2011: 20 reais per person in a dorm and 40 for a private room with shared bathroom.

I had the most amazing time at Backpacker's Ceara. It is without a doubt one of the best hostel's I have ever stayed at. The rooms are bright and charming with tons of color and Brasilian style. The bathrooms were always clean as well as the rooms. The hostel was as clean and even cleaner than any other. I really loved the location, right across from the Cultural Center, a flew blocks from the Mercado Central and just a flew blocks from the beautiful Iracema Beach. The kitchen had all the appliances you need to cook whatever you desire and the hang-out area with hammocks, a gathering table, a couch, and tv were perfect for meeting other guests. I especially loved all the guests staying at Backpacker's Ceara. It was a big mix of people from all over the world and everyone was extremely friendly and always enjoyed offering advice on future destinations and traveling stories. The staff was extremely friendly and always offering assistance with everything. The owner, Gisele, was very nice and helpful and always had the perfect answer to anything needed. Her daughter is the cutest ever and it was always a pleasure to see her whenever she was around. She always made guests happy with her cute smile and cheerful attitude. Gisele's mother was so friendly and made sure the hostel was the cleanest and best in all of Ceara. I would highly recommend staying at this hostel and I would love to stay here again when I travel back to Fortaleza. My hostel experience at Backpacker's Ceara...Muita Bon!!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are amazing!

I stayed in Backpackers Ceara Hostel together with my brother for 5 nights and we really enjoyed it.
The owner of the Hostel Gisele could help us a lot, giving good advices for our stay in Fortaleza.
The hostel is a international one, so it is english spoken and the majority of guests are foreigners.
It is a very simple place to stay, but it contains everything a young backpacker needs: Nice rooms, big bathrooms (collective), good internet access, a kitchen, tv, a kind of living room with hammoks...
The atmosphere was very calm and relaxing and at night it is not very dangerous to go out, because the Cultural Center Dragão do Mar is just one block from the hostel and the big Handycraft market Mercado Central is also very close.

So when you come to Fortaleza and you search for a nice, simple and cheap place to stay, chose Backpackers!

Thanks Gisele, we really enjoyed your hostel!

It's not difficult to feel at home in Gisele's Backpacker and its friendly family-like atmosphere. You'll find cheap and clean accomodation; a place to cook; a hammock to digest and nice people to have a bear or two. It's near the dragao do mar, so no worries for coming home at night and very near to the beach ... so no worries to have a swim in the morning. So, it's just the right mixture of everything which makes a stay relaxed and easy.
cheers, Jana

I stayed at the hostel for 2 weeks, the owners are lovely, the environment is relaxed. I especially enjoyed the hammocks! The rooms are nicely decorated and the beds are comfortable. It is extremely secure and safe with special coded doors and lockers. The owners take special care in making sure the beds, rooms, bathrooms and kitchen is all very clean. Overall I had a very enjoyable stay.

I have made a reservation for accomodation about 1 month before my trip to Fortaleza. I contacted Mrs Gisele Leal, who answered all my emails. My reservation was fully confirmed, and we agreed that I should call the very same day I was going to the hostel, to coordinate my check in.

I spoke with Gisele Leal the agreed day, and she, very impolitely told me that my reservation and bed was sold to another person! She didn't want to give more explanation and simply dropped the phone...

After several travels around many countries over my shoulder, I never had such a unpleasant experience. I had to look for a 4 times more expensive hotel and make a last minute reservation :(

If you want to get for an affordable accomodation in Fortaleza, don't call Backpackers Ceara Hostel. Just look for other options and enjoy such a nice city!! DOn't lose your time and money!
