“Best sleep of my life!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2010

Beyond my expectations. You are close enough to the historical center of Salvador for a day trip, yet at the same time worlds away from the hectic (perhaps dangerous) pace of the city. It's like two vacations in one. This is a completely different experience than I imagine you would have staying at similarly priced more urban locations like Barra, Rio Vermelho, or Pelorinho. It is close to bus lines that go south into the city, or north to the gorgeous Praia do Flamengo or even further north to the resort village of Praia do Forte. The grounds and rooms of Pousada de Itapoan are TRANQUILO. A hammock on your balcony, fresh breezes all day and night. Beautiful linens, towels, pillows and beds AND a truly hot shower (which was a rare find in Brazil). Maid service, fresh towels and very lovely breakfast daily. (I already miss the bread and cheese). Lovely owners and excellent night staff who all went out of their way for my husband and I on a daily basis and who will happily give you insider tips about local attractions, etc. I can't think of any negatives. Great value, great service, great location, GREAT SLEEP!

“A very relaxing week - exactly what we was looking for”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2010

We - Claus and Trine and our son Johan, 11 yars old, spent a week in Pousada Encanto de Itapoan on our 3 weeks holiday in Brazil. We had a very enjoyable stay and was especially exited with the beaches, that offered both protection for the surf and wawes "to fight". Speaking no portuguese at all we could stay at the barracas at the beach, buy food and beverages anyway - we found that most brasilians are very kind and helpfull.
At the pousada we appreciated the breakfast area, where we spend the evenings reading, facebooking and drinking coffee - as Johan was so tired after swimming all day, that he went to sleep very early.
Janet and Octacilio was most kind and helpfull and so was their staff. We mostly visited the local restaurants, which were exelent and within walking distance.

“We were enchanted”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2010

We only planned to stay for two nights but found this pousada so delightful and relaxing, we extended our stay for another couple of days. The public rooms have a lovely open outdoor feeling, the rooms themselves are simple (no fussy decoration), the bed was comfortable, the organization of closets/bath was convenient, and the feel of the room was welcoming. Breakfast has lots of delicious tropical fruit as well as eggs, yogurt, baked goods, coffee. There is a pool at the inn but the beach is only a short walk (a couple of doors down) and because it is sheltered by a reef you can easily swim there also. Want huge waves? Walk past the light house and there is another stretch of beach with huge waves (I only saw surfers in the water here).
The host family is friendly and exceptionally helpful. When I left my drivers license behind, they called and told me they found it. And then they mailed it to my home in the US. I can recommend this inn without reservation.

“Relaxing and close to the beach”

We spent a week in Salvador. Of that week, we spent four nights at Encanto de Itapoan. We loved our time there! The beach is just down the street. There are yummy spots to eat along the beach. There are also two very good seafood restaurants within walking distance to Encato. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They gave good recommendations about where to eat and where it was safe to walk at night. Ocotilio suggested a concert that we might enjoy with local bands. It absolutely could not have been more fun! We also enjoyed the super capirinhas made Encanto. It should be said that this is not luxury accommodations but we were comfortable and slept well and the breakfast gave us a good start to each day. Coming to Salvador requires a sense of adventure. The culture and cuisine are phenomenal if you are open to them.

“Sublime, peaceful pousada near beach and great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2010

My wife and I stayed here for ten days in early March and we loved every minute. Our English-born hostess, Janet, was most helpful in describing the local scene in food and entertainment and her musician husband Octacillio, the music scene.

The pousada is in a small community which boasts several excellent restaurants, a 24 hour gas station with ATM, a small but delicious bakery, a convenience store and an ice cream parlour. Nearby is the summer house of Vinicius De Moraes, lyricist of many bossa nova songs, along with a small dedicated square complete with bronze statue.

Everyone at the pousada was cheerful and welcoming. All worked very hard to ensure that we enjoyed our stay, whether making reservations or interesting drinks.

The pousada is well designed and built of natural materials, the rooms are airy and the high ceilings add to the sense of space. The pool is always warm and its courtyard a nice place to sunbathe whilst listening to the music of Bahia and enjoying a caparinha. There is a comfortable first floor (English) second floor (USA) open lounge with internet access and music system.

The beach is only a few yards away and has many baraccas (cafes) offering fresh food. Try the sun dried meat dishes and the fresh red snapper. There are beach vendors but they are not aggressive. When the tide is out there are many rock pools in which to find small creatures. Local musicians can be heard at the weekend.

We do not speak Portuguese, but without exception, we were treated graciously. We sincerely recommend this pousada.
