On the positive side, our room was clean and spacious, with a beautiful ocean view. The free breakfast was delicious (try the tapioca pancakes and the coconut cake!). On the negative side, the Salvador Praia has the rudest hotel staff I encountered in Brazil. The front desk was staffed by a series of snide and unhelpful people who seemed inconvenienced by such simple requests as a map of the city and another bath towel (our room only had one). We were robbed right down the street from the hotel (during the daytime) and the front desk staff expressed no concern for our welfare and no desire to warn other guests about potential danger in the area. "If you're so worried, just go back to Pelourinho and make a report to the tourist police. They won't be able to do anything anyway," spat the clerk. True, there is nothing that anyone could have done at that point, but a little concern would have gone a long way. The bed and chairs were uncomfortable, and I had the impression that the place hadn't been redecorated since the 70's. I would definitely not stay here again.
