I will try to help you understand COSTA SAUIPE LOCATION first as I am still quite speechless about the dirt and filth I witnessed at the 2 hotels I stayed in. The location is FANTASTIC and thanks to this we had great holidays in the end. It is an enormous complex made up of different hotels and activity centres : Golf, spa, tennis, kids club (incredible, great staff, endless energy and a kids hotel in itself with supervision), nautical, stables (we did a 2 hour hack along the beach, you cannot actually go ON the beach because of danger of crushing turtles so dont be mislead, it a a 2 hour WALK, no trot or gallop) and a central area for the evening entertainments with restaurants, bars and shops (which is great for a resort because it means the noise is far from your room if you want quiet). The coastline is beautiful, long long walks along palm tree lined beach. The sea IS rough but fun for children over 8 (amazing surfing lessons) and you can actually find solutions for younger ones at calmer moments of the day and by finding areas where the sea runs into the beach and forms small rivers and natural pools.
BUT sadly you need to sleep, eat and use the pools in this same resort!
Our first stop HOTEL FUN. I was actually reduced to tears. The rooms were ancient, mouldy, dirty and falling apart. The restaurant was closed for renovation so we ate in small closed smelly carpeted conference room. The floors throughout hotel were filthy. Thankfully I contacted guest relations and met an angel - Susanne - who did her best to help us out and put us in a suite in PARK. She was exceptionally professional throughout our stay.
However, I am embarrassed to say, PARK was also filthy. The restaurant was filthy and sticky (tables, floors, plates, cutlery) and kept running out of bowls, spoons, etc. During the weekend the hotel was full and the restaurant just got worse. The worst is that the pools have bars IN the pools - not uncommon and pretty wonderful with proper management - but NOT when you have to swim in scum because they are overrun and not cleaned. At the weekend it stank because of all the rubbish beside the bar. Even my husband, Mr Mellow himself, was shocked.
So basically it seems, management are cutting costs and just relying on location for success, not renovating, not supplying enough cutlery and dishes, not enough staff to handle the masses (these hotels are ENORMOUS), the staff were sweating and miserable during the weekend and my heart went out to them (NB - bar, restaurant staff).
Management are lucky, they have an amazing woman handling guest relations (one woman for ALL the hotels!), charming reception at PARK, wonderful entertainment staff. But restaurant and bar staff and demotivated and surrounded by FILTH.
So your call in wieghing up the PROS and CONS.
Park closed the day we left for renovation, but this was to extend the restaurants space. I hope they employ more people to manage this space..
NB - to clarify "all inclusive" - you can eat b/f, lunch and dinner with drinks at the buffet IN THE HOTEL you choose to stay in. + all snack and drinks poolside any hotel. Any other restuarant (other hotel or areas) is to be paid for. You get one courtesy dinner (without alcoholic drinks) in central village. one full mini bar per day (take in your bag - there are no drinks on beach and charged costly in all activity centres!)
NB - activites. We had 2 days empty resort and the overrun weekend. I would not want to go to COSTA in high season, you would spend your holidays queuing if you wanted to enjoy nautical.
And thank you again Susanne!!!!! You were amazing and I hope management appreciate you!!!
Request sea view and either ground level to open onto pool or high up for privacy and view of the oc...
