Let's start here, I have been traveling for over 20 years and I am tough to impress. Every hotel looks the same after a while.
But not the Tropical Manaus Business........From the clean rooms, to the lovely vista from balcony overlooking the Rio Negro, to the wonderful service from everyone on staff. I took my wife along on this business trip, and she loved everything about the hotel as well.
The breakfast buffet was avaialble every morning, the food was hot and tasty. If you went later in the morning, the corn flakes would be soggy from the humidity...that was my only minor complaint. The hotel shares facilities with the Tropical Manaus hotel. You can visit all of that hotel's restaurants and facilities just like you were staying there (It is only a short walk over to the other property).
The grounds of the properties are well kept. Clean and neat was the rule. We had brought bug spray expecting mosquitos the size of birds, but were pleasantly surprised......we saw hardly any bugs, and do not recall being bitten by one mosquito (A local told us the Rio Negro has a low PH - acidic- so mosquitos cannot lay their eggs nearby).
The staff mostly speaks Portuguese, a few speak English. Even my limited Spanish language skills drew blank stares. Get yourself a Portuguese-English dictionary before you go. It isn't neccessary, but it would have made our lives a bit more easy.
There is a tour company that runs tours on the Amazon that leave directly from the hotel property. My wife went on her own with a tour group to see the "Meeting of the Waters" tour. I mention this for three reasons.....
1. The tour only cost about $55.00 per person for a seven hour tour of the Amazon, and it included lunch!
2. Seeing the meeting of the Rio Negro and the Amazon is an amazing experience. The brown and black waters run side by side for miles before they finally merge.
3. With me working, it was safe and secure for my wife to go on the tour by herself with other tourists from th hotel.
I bring up security only because we read so many bad things and warnings about traveling to Brazil. When we were on the property, we had ZERO probelms and NEVER felt unsafe. Walking in the city might have been different, but not at the Tropical Manaus. It is like walking in small town back home......
Lastly, the room we had was comfortable, with a good, firm king size mattress. The room had a couch, table and chairs, and a desk. The bathroom had a hair dryer and shower stall.
There was wired high speed internet access available in the room. It was OK, not really great, but it did work most of the time. At times, Skype would lose connection or break up. But it was fine for web browsing and email.
That's all I have for now. You will not regret staying here.
