“Below Our Expectations”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013 via mobile

First, the location is great and our guide was excellent. My wife caught a piranha from the dock and we enjoyed the tour of the rainforest and the monkey centre.

As for the lodge, not very happy. Rooms were very cramped. Two single beds (with extremely hard and thin mattresses) and no other space. Tiny shower. Make sure you bring your own shampoo, etc. as there isn't anything supplied.

Meals were also poor. Buffet style, but the flies were everywhere. Pretty disgusting. A simple net around the dining area would have taken care of this.

To sum up, great location, but not a lodge I would ever return to.

We stayed for 2 nights at the beginning of our S American tour. The location was great as it was far from the river and any other hotels or businesses. Amazing though was the lack of any wildlife!

The tours were poor as they included a hike to a monkey rehabilitation center. We only saw them as they were being fed. They took us piranha fishing. This involved sitting on the dock of a local marina as we all were given bamboo poles, trying to catch the 3-4" piranha.

The buffet style meals were good but tended to be the same from meal to meal. You need to be on time as the food is almost gone after 30 minutes.

Would stay further up the river next time to get a better feel for the jungle.

Our cabin is remarkably similar to KOA cabins, minimalist! The window ac worked well for the cabin and it was extremely quiet.

Our first two days at Ecopark were great. On the third day our guide got us lost in the jungle and our two hour trek turned into six and a half hours. Our guide couldn't orient himself by the sun, a compass that we provided him, or a creek that we came across (which he argued was flowing the other way and that you always follow a creek upstream if you get lost- he said going downstream will only take you deeper into the jungle). The only thing more surprising than his lack of knowledge, was how unprepared he was for this situation. No flare gun, no horn, no water, etc. We feared that we would be sleeping in the jungle and were worried about animals, the dark, etc. We were a group of 16 ages 4-81. More disturbing however, was the manager David, who essentially didn't want to talk about the situation when we got back. He told me he would speak to our us that evening or the following a.m. The next morning when I went to check out I was told he took off in a speedboat. The nominal discount he offered for our stay was nothing compared to the experience that we went through and his lack of concern for the well being of our group was shocking. Unbelievably scary experience and then terrible service from what should be a great lodge.

If you are the luxury traveler who is looking for a 4-5 star hotel, this is not the place for you. However, I must say, considering this was in the jungle, the accommodation was not bad overall, so lets get into it:
Tours- We went on a few tours, this included: Piranha Fishing, Monkey Forest, Jungle walk, boat trip in the Amazon and a local people tour. The monkey forest and the boat trip seemed to be my favorite, however the guide was the problem. To me his behavior seemed like he had come into work High. He kept repeating himself and was very slow. The Boat trip was run by a different guide, who was awesome! he spoke many languages and was 41 years experienced, he even got my sister a small gift :). I give the tours 6 1/2 out of 10, due to our guide and a few tours being ridiculous.
Food- The food is something I can't blame, it was very good. At breakfast there was a large selection of tasty fruit and fresh eggs prepared for you. On the tours the food was also good, so don't worry about that. I give it 9/10.
Environment and facilities: The best part of our stay was the area, it was very Jungle-like (obviously) and there was an awesome natural pool that I enjoyed with my family. I can't fault all those awesome hammocks either. 10/10
Rooms: (Oh no) So this is what brings the experience down to 3 stars: When we walked into our room, it smelt like a dead frog. It was horrible, and extremely cramped!!! (As another bed was brought in). The door to get in didn't open all the way, and the bathroom door scraped loudly against the floor as you opened it, to get into a bathroom the size of a Portaloo! It was however clean, but the smell was unbearable so we moved rooms after one night. The rooms have a ridiculous looking air conditioning unit. I give our room experience 4/10 or 2 star standard.
I conclude that this experience has decent tours and a good area and food, but very bad accommodation and not-so-friendly staff. I honestly expected more.

Room Tip: If you walk in and is smells bad, ask to move instantly! Try and get a room closer to reception.

Tours appear disorganized...but you really feel like you are in the jungle! Bring lots of water and a little patience for the tour organization and enjoy the night sounds of the jungle.. make sure to do the jungle tour.. the fishing is hokey but fun.. drink a beer.. do not miss a swim in the "natural swimming pool".. it is so refreshing... much more authentic than the other close by Manaus lodges.

We stayed at the eco lodge for three nights as a part of a package tour and i have to say that it was a real low point of the holiday.

The chalet accomadation is basic but exceptable. What really lets this place down is the total lack of service. On the first day we arrived we just missed lunch (because the lodge forgot to pick us up from the airport) so the only food available was a greasy toasted sandwich from the bar.
We were then told that there would be a trip but they didnt know what the trip was or how long it would last.
On the second day we decided to skip the tours and have a late breakfast at 8.30 only to find that most of the food had gone and not been replaced. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were dull buffets that offered little choice. Generally the staff looked confused if you asked for anything and none of them showed even the basic customer service skills

After dinner we went to the bar for a drink to find that all of the staff had gone for dinner and that we would have to wait around 30 minutes for service. This also applied to the reception desk where one woman was made to wait for her key.

The only plus side was that we did have an excellent tour guide which is a bonus because it means that you will spend less time in the lodge

We had an excellent stay at this lodge which is a remote paradise. You need to be prepared to be set in a true jungle envrinment and the trip is worth it as the only noise is the sounds of the Amazon. Food is great, guides are knowledgable and offer excellent walks and excursions. You are totally cut off from everyday stresses here and its worth every penny. Its basic but clean and has everything you need. Take a trip to the meeting of the waters where the Amazon meets the Negro its amazing to see and a visit to Manaus is also worthwhile. Night time Cayman spotting is a must we took the option to walk and do this rather than take a boat and it was so much fun! . I would highly recommend this place as a good getaway.
