The meeting of the waters phenomenon, when Rio solimoes (milk tea colored, pale, colder, faster river originating from the melting glaciers, ice cap of the Andes) meets with chocolate colored (from dissolved decomposed leaves, kinda like tea, in relatively warmer water) Rio Negro. Rio Negro, with its warmer temperature, acidic pH, does not support as much bio diversity as the Rio solimoes. So the flora along the coastline of the 2 rivers is completely different. The phenomenon of meeting of the waters, is when these 2 rivers meet, and flow alongside for 8-10km without mixing. Its phenomenal – you can actually see a distinct boundary between the 2 rivers in the water. These 2 rivers together form the 2nd longest river in the world, and the largest fresh water body, Rio amazon, home of over 20% of the world’s flora/fauna species. Worth its while, although you spend an entire day in the boat.
