I had a great time in the Jungle Lodge and I'm currently on my way back.
IT was not exactly as I expected, because the information provided by the agency was different to the one on the web site.
The accomodation was nice - not luxory; but you don't expect air condition or something like this in the water. The rooms are fine; there are shared bathrooms. However, there are also new buildings with small apartments including shower and toilet. They have not been used as they have not been separately advertised, but for someone who wants to spend extra money on this comfort, this could be an idea.
Nevertheless, you will not spend much time at the Lodge anyways.
Next to the sleeping area there is a kind of restaurant, i.e. a roofed place to sit and eat, and a small pool. Having a pool might seem strange in the jungle, but after sweating in the rain forrest it is nice to get some refreshment.
Everything is nice - it does not look like a tourist place at all - anybody who searches the comfort of a hotel should go somewhere else. But for someone who likes to experience the jungle, this is a great experience!
The Lodge is placed on an island - quite a bit outside Manaus; so it is far from civilization. I really liked the amazing nature. In
As it is in the Rio Negro Area and not the Amazon River there are less moskitos - due to this also less other animals, but you will certainly see piranhas, caimans, monkeys, insects, lots of different birds and every day I saw several dolphins, both grey and pink ones. The probability of seeing tarantulas or snakes during the jungle walk ist also quite high... And if you are lucky, you might see a sloth,... as well.
You are in the jungle, so don't expect too much. But still, it was good!
Morning: Bread, eggs, bananas, butter & jam
Lunch: Fish, rice, beans, cucumber/tomato salad, water melon
dinner: Chicken and rice
There is water whenever you like; you may bring your own drinks or ask the employees for something else they brought from the village.
The activities are really nice; you will spend much time in the jungle.
Don't expect too much of the native village, but the indigenous tribe is really nice. They are really friendly; not begging or trying to exploit tourists. We went there as a group of 7 people which was regarded a big group of tourists. You relly feel more like a visitor than a tourist.
The main activities will be on the river or in the jungle. Whenever we were caiman spotting, we found some; but also travelling through the river in the canoes is amazing. I took many pictures of the area, the animals, the sunsets,...
The night in the jungle was great! With dinner prepared over the fire, plates of palm leaves created right there and spoons our guide cut out of some wood with machete & knife. Be sure to bring a moskito net if you want to sleep outside the lodge. If you don't have one, they will help you to buy one.
The night with the locals was more a night on the beach - with great sand and a sky full of stars.
They are great! All of them! They are very nice and supporting. If you have special desires (different tours, anything you need to buy in town,...), they will kindly help you. They are also very trustworthy people. They are not just working there, but continuously trying to improve the service and the lodge - driver and guides were among the best and nicest I met.
Rather young people (20-35) or people that stayed young inside. As we were always a rather small group (4 to 7 people) we got to know each other well and we were quite flexible. Moreover, small groups give a better jungle feeling than a big, loud crowd of tourists.
Who wants 4 or 5 star accomodation should get a hotel or cruise ship. Who wants a great (and very much cheaper) jungle experience in an amazing surrounding, being in touch with nature within a group of nice and really cool people should definitely go here!
I can only highly recommend staying here!
