Staff are cheerful and speak some English. Room clean and free of mozzies but has no window. "Single room" had 3 bunks. Aircon ancient and available only 9 pm to 7 am. Kitchen for guests very limited. Staircase dangerous for old people.

I had to wait in reception for about 5 minutes until the lady came out with her sandwich and didnt seem to pleased that I bothered her. I hadnt booked either so she was very short with me. i also asked for a taxi to the airport which they forgot to book.
Location is great, but other than that the hostel is bad. The kitchen has one plastic mug, no plates, nothing to cook with so best bet is to go out. No areas to socialize, its lacking in atmosphere.

I arrived to Manaus in the middle of the night and the airport taxi driver took me to Manaus Hostel. I had debit card problems, but they were nice enough to let me stay two nights until I could pay them. It would be nice if they accepted credit cards however. The location is very good, a short walk to the Opera House. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have a computer for guests, but I think the fee of 3 BRs an hour is unnecessary. Overall, I appreciated their help and would stay there again.

Got there in the middle of the night, I had booked a room mouths ago and confirmed it before my trip. But when I got there they didn't know of my booking. I had to sleep in a shared dorme with a very strange strange occupant who seemed to live in there and collect rubbish off the street never again

I spent a night here while waiting to be transferred to the jungle. The hostel is nothing special but perfectly suitable for a night or 2. It`s very well located, the cleanliness is decent, 2 computers but you have to pay for internet. Unfortunately, reception struggles with English but then again you are in Brazil. There are not a lot of budget options in Manuas so if you are a backpacker this hostel is A-ok.

The hostel was generally clean and had everything you could expect for the price. The staff didn't speak much English though, I'm not sure how I would have got by without my Portuguese.

Definitely pay the extra for air-conditioning!! The kitchen facilities left a little to be desired but you can get by. The breakfast is decent and a standard for Brazilian breakfast.

Beware of buying trips or boat fairs from anybody at the hostel. If they tell you things like ' dont tell anybody else about the price I gave you because its a steal' don't believe them. They will get whatever price they think they can. Also they will tell you whatever you want to hear about the trip. Talk to as many other guests as you can before deciding on anything.

I stayed a few nights in Manaus Hostel Trip Tour and asked the rezeption for jungle tour advice. They sold be the tour of Planet Tours (www.planettours.com.br) for R$ 125.- per day and person. Planet Tours operates a Budget Lodge upstream the Rio Negro approx. 35km from Manaus. On the lodge I found out, that other backpackers paid much less for this excursion. They booked trough Amazing Tours Agency (www.manausjunglehostel.com) for R$ 90.- per day and person, approx. 30% off than I paid. Back in Manaus I complained with the operator, and was told, that they have to pay huge commissions to hostel and hotel receptions. I thought, a serious hostel will give optimized advice ... and do not practice a kind of highway robbery.
